At present, the racing sports bike is in commercial production and is called the BMW S 1000 RR. I was first introduced in Munich in the year 2008, April. The production of BMW S 1000 RR was expanded for commercial sale in 2010. The sports bike is formidable because of its aerodynamic look and top-shelf accessories. BMW S 1000 RR Expert Review

Introduction

The BMW S 1000 RR comes with a performance-oriented, fast litre class-naked, offering everything that can be expected from any sports bike in this segment. The motorbike can be used as a performance-oriented, everyday street bike, and it may as well double up as an entertainment package for the racing tracks.

How is the design?

The frame layout along with the suspension technology makes the BMW S 1000 RR lighter and even more precise. The modified frame and the fairing design offers a proper seating position. The LED headlights appear to be dynamic and the front indicators provide improved stability and look aesthetically pleasing. The RR bike quality dominates both in terms of design and functionality. The number plate comes with brake lights, LED Turn Signals and tail lights. The asymmetrical headlamps add to the aggressive looks of the bike. The bodywork, the panels, and fairings come with a new look and overall, it can be said that the BMW S 1000 RR is a very handsome superbike.

How is the performance?

The BMW S 1000 RR is a top-performance sports bike, and it also comes with an optimal M package, which is used by the riders to turn their bike into an ultimate racing sports bike. Powered by an oil/water cooled, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, 4-titanium valves, 999cc, BMW ShiftCam engine, which is able to produce a peak torque of 113 Nm at 11,000rpm and a maximum power of 206.6ps at 13,500rpm, BMW S 1000 RR is expected to deliver a top-notch performance. The improvised features of the bike include a new timing concept, hallowed drill titanium valves, a self-reinforcing multi disc and, a anti-hopping wet clutch. The lighter engine of the bike offers improved handling and ergonomics.

How does the BMW S 1000 RR ride?

The BMW S 1000 RR is meant for experienced riders, and even they should not take the motorbike lightly. The bike feels small and compact, just like a super-sport bike, and the engine generates enough power to produce a high-speed performance, but it is really a challenge to handle the speed around twisted roads and corners. The Dynamic Damping Control of the bike shifts within a few milliseconds. The wind deflector, on the other hand, improves the aerodynamics and the riding quality to certain extent. The rear and front 17-inch tyre holds the enormous bike to the track. The shift-cam technology functions impressively when the bike is run on a race mode. The frontal suspension of the bike is an inverted telescopic fork of 45mm, which has the capacity to absorb shocks, bumps and potholes very well.

How comfortable is the BMW S 1000 RR?

The BMW S 1000 RR features a trimmed sitting area and a lean fuel tank providing improved support and knee grip. The all-new RR has perfect ergonomics and it is much lighter. The frame, tank, tail, foot-pegs and seat have been modified by BMW for more feedback, greater support, good knee closure and freedom of movement. The multi-controller on the bike provides connectivity functions and quick access. The upgraded RR has been equipped with a Six Axis Inertial Measuring Control or IM, which powers the ABS and the Dynamic Traction Control. Coming to the seats, the bike comes with a split seat and the seat height is 824mm, making it difficult for the rider to mount the bike. Moreover, the seat is not very well-padded, to give it a slimmer look and the pillion seat is positioned higher and does not appear to be very comfortable. The pillion seat is very small and does not even come with a backrest.

How's the tech?

The all-new BMW S 1000 RR is packed with advanced tech features and it comes with 4 standard riding modes- Rain, Race, Road and Dynamic. Some of the other tech features of the bike are:

  • Six-Axis Sensor Cluster
  • Digital Speedometer
  • Low-Battery Indicator
  • Fuel Warning Indicator
  • Clock
  • Dynamic Traction Control
  • Pass Light
  • Analogue Tachometer
  • Fuel Gauge
  • Digital Trip Metre
  • 5-inch TFT Instrument Control
  • Gear Indicator
  • Engine Braking Control
  • Low Oil Indicator
  • Trip Metre Count
  • Engine Kill Switch
  • Wheelie Control
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • ABS

How's the mileage of the BMW S 1000 RR?

With a fuel tank capacity of 12 Litres, the new BMW S 1000 RR is able to return a mileage of about 12 Km/L. The ShiftCam technology of the bike varies the valve and stroke timing, offering better performance in the bottom-end and mid-range.

Is the BMW S 1000 RR good value for money?

Despite the hefty price tag, there are a number of standard features which make this motorbike a value for money. Moreover, it delivers top-notch performance and meets the expectation of the riders even when they want to use it on the tracks. Thus, the bike is ideal for both daily commuters and enthusiasts.

How is the after sales service?

The total service cost of the all-new BMW S 1000 RR is Rs.1,85,553 for five years. The service cost of the bike in the first year is Rs. 20,617, and it is Rs. 41, 234 over the next four years. Therefore, the BMW S 1000 RR does not only come with a heavy price tag but it is also a high-maintenance bike.

Which motorbikes compete in this segment?

The other motorbikes competing in the same segment as the BMW S 1000 RR are Ducati Streetfighter V4, Triumph Speed Triple, Kawasaki ZH2, Suzuki Hayabusa and so on.

Verdict (Value for money)

Even though the bike comes with a heavy price tag, it delivers its best performance, and lives up to the expectation of the riders. The bike is loaded with attractive features, making it ideal for daily commuting as well as for racing tracks. Anyone looking for a superbike in this segment can definitely go for the BMW S 1000 RR. Seriously BMW motorad has done commendable job as SS1000RR is great bike. I bought this machine in September 2019 M Pro variant and completed almost 15000 kms. I'm using it for mostly touring and daily commuting. I've done 3-4 tracks on BIC, believe me it feels like rocket while speeding. If you're planning to buy a superbike you should definitely consider it.
