About Hero Xtreme 160R

Hero has heated the streetfighter segment with the new Hero Xtreme 160R. The new streetfighter bike starts at ₹ 1,11,610 in India. The Hero street bike is available in four variants: Xtreme 160R 100 Million Edition, Xtreme 160R Front Disc, Stealth Edition and Xtreme 160R Dual Disc.

The top variant which was recently introduced, the Stealth Edition, starts with a price tag of ₹ 1,17,000. A 163 cc BS6 engine powers the stylish streetfighter bike. It produces a peak torque of 14 Nm at 6500 rpm and generates a maximum capacity of 15 bhp at 8500 rpm. The engine from Hero Xtreme displaces more than 160cc. It is an advanced programmed fuel injection and air-cooled single-cylinder, which helps it generate 15 bhp and 14 Nm.

The Xtreme 160R is Hero’s latest entry to the 150-160 cc sporty segment in India. It has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres. The BS6 engine offers a mileage of 48 kmpl, and with the advanced programmed fuel injection, Hero claims that one can even expect more than 50 kmpl mileage at economical use.

Hence, you can expect to cruise more than 540 kilometres in one go with a full tank. Moreover, the Xtreme bike weighs just 138 kg and is one of the lightest street bikes, giving it a considerable advantage in handling.

The dual disc variant is equipped with rear and front disc brakes, whereas the other variant, the front disc, has only one disc brake. In addition, Hero has given Xtreme features an anti-lock braking system (ABS) which enhances the braking of this streetfighter bike.

Except for the base model, which has the front disc setup, the other two variants have rear and front disc brakes and ABS technology. Xtreme 160R is also Hero’ solution to TVS Apache RTR 160 and Bajaj Pulsar NS160. The Hero commuter bike has included some great features to offer more values to the consumers. As mentioned above, only the base variant has the front disc brake, and all three models feature alloy wheels and a standard electric start.

Except for Bajaj NS 160’s power in higher speed, the Hero Xtreme 160R gives tough competition to both the Apache and NS160 in terms of affordability, design, quality and features.

Moreover, there is no shortage of versatility in terms of colours as Hero offers four shades for Xtreme, Pearl Silver White, Sports Red, Vibrant Blue, and the latest, 100 Million Ltd Edition.

The Hero Xtreme competes in the street bike section with other bikes such Honda XBlade, TVS Apache RTR 160, and Bajaj Pulsar NS160.

Hero Xtreme 160R Expert Review

Introduction

The segment in which the Hero Xtreme 160R has entered already has a number of successful bikes including Yamaha FZ, Bajaj NS 160, Apache RTR, and Yet looking at the Hero Xtreme 160R, it still breathes fresh air of practicality and elegance.

How is the design?

Coming to its design, it is stylish, compact and with its chest heavy stance, the Hero Xtreme 160R retains the spirit of traditional street bikes. The side panels are mated with the fuel tank, which adds to its modern look, appealing and curious. The design of the fuel tank has a gripping purpose and it fits the legs of the rider, and provides excellent support while cruising through the city. It comes with a space-age outlook, especially because of the LED headlamps, along with a custom-like blacked-out tail-light. The stepped-single seat and the aggressive front-fender add to the modern and playful aura of the Xtreme 160R. The athletic rider footrest and the potent exhaust combine to combine to provide the ultimate street fighter outlook. The 3D embellished logo adds to its premium quality as well.

How is the performance?

Coming to the performance of the Hero Xtreme 160R, it is powered by a, air-cooled, 2-valve single cylinder, 4-stroke, 163cc BS6 engine, and the bike is at its best in the range of 85-95 Kmph. The engine has the capacity to produce a maximum power of 15.2ps at 8500rpm, and a peak torque of 14Nm at 6500rpm. There are hardly any vibrations to be felt in the bike, and the efficiency of the torque gives the rider the ability to pull-off clean overtakes. The braking system of the bike compiles well with its speed, and the ABS do not make unnecessary intrusion. Being a street bike, the Hero Xtreme 160R is able to sustain over 100 Kmph all day long. A glide feature is integrated in the bike to ensure that the engine still works even when the throttle input is blocked, and it is quite handy especially while dealing bumper-to-bumper and heavy traffic.

How does the Hero Xtreme 160R ride?

In terms of style, comfort and performance, the Xtreme 160R is one of the best Hero motorcycles. The initial pick-up of the bike is impressive and this makes it feel alive, and it performs just as well on the mid-range, which makes it fun to ride and potent. The suspensions of the bike have a stiff rear and a soft front, making it reliable while sailing through corners as well as through potholes as the front suspension has the capacity to absorb most of the jerks. As claimed by Hero, the Xtreme 160R is one of the first in its class to reach 0 to 60kmph in just about 4.7 seconds, making it an ideal bike for overtaking and with a kerb weight of just 138.5Kg, the bike is easy to handle and agile. The chassis and tyres on the other hand, adds to the good riding dynamics of the bike. The efficiency of the brakes is more observed in the lower speed, rather than in higher speeds.

How comfortable is the Hero Xtreme 160R?

The Hero Xtreme 160R offers a fair amount of comfort to its riders, and the ergonomically designed seats ensures the position of the rider is reasonably straight. The ergonomic design of the fuel tank enables the riders to position their knees and this adds to the rider’s grip very well. The seat of the bike is further extended towards the fuel tank and this ensures a large sitting area as well as added comfort. The pillion seat, however, is relatively smaller and not as comfortable. For an average Indian adult, the handlebar is pretty easy to reach and while steering, it offers sufficient leverage. The footpegs of the bike are rear-set. While it is widely believed that the bike is meant for high-speeds, Hero ensures a good riding stance for its rider, adding to their comfort. The throttle and clutch operations are lighter, but the clutch could have been softer to ensure even more comfort.

How's the tech?

With the Xtreme 160R, Hero has decided to surge the level of tech features, with the integration of digital instrumentation display engine rpm, odometer, speedometer, two trip-metres and time. However, the gear-shift indicator is lacking in this model and feels like a void in a premium motorcycle. A smartwatch feel comes with the overall look of the panel and gives a technologically advanced character to the bike. The dual-disc version of the bike is paired with a single-channel ABS, giving more confidence to the rider while attacking corners and overtaking the traffic. The Hero Xtreme 160R features an all-LED headlamp setup to tune the tail lamp and indicators.

How's the mileage of the Hero Xtreme 160R?

As claimed by Hero, the Xtreme 160R comes with a fuel economy of 50 kmpl when driven economically, although on paper, the mileage of the bike is 48 Kmpl. It comes with a fuel-tank capacity of 12 Litres.

Is the Hero Xtreme 160R good value for money?

With a price tag of 1.17 Lakh, the Hero Xtreme 160R top variant has earned the reputation of being the best street bike, in terms of design, ergonomics, performance and style. It is therefore, one of the holistic street bikes available in the market of India at this point. The finishing and fit of the bike are premium, with a range of notable features. There are no reasons for not buying this bike, and it is definitely value for money.

How is the after sales service?

Hero offers two free services for its Xtreme 160R. The first free service is provided after 60 days from purchase or 750 Kms, whichever is earlier, and the second free service is offered after 100 days, or 3500 kms, whichever is earlier.

Which motorbikes compete in this segment?

Some of the most prominent rivals of the Hero Xtreme 160R include TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Honda X-Blade, Suzuki Gixxer 155, Bajaj Pulsar NS 160, Yamaha FZ-S FI, and so on.

Verdict (Value for money)

With great design and comfort, the Hero Xtreme 160R is believed to be an affordable bike and one of the best in its segment. Anyone looking for a practical bike for the purpose of daily commuting or long rides, this bike is ideal. It is also a treat for bike enthusiasts.

Final Verdict on Xtreme 160R

Tuned to offer an exciting ride, the Hero Xtreme 160R is one of the most value for money product available in the market currently. The desginers have made a more than decent effort to make the motorcyle look classy yet practical at the same time. But, some efforts could've been made to make it comfortable for the pillion and providing with a slightly better looking instrument panel that looks outdated in today's day and age. Brakes falls short to offer safety at higher speeds.

All You Need to Know About the Xtreme 160R

Based on the features and design, the Hero Xtreme 160R is one of the best Hero products in the market. It absolutely nails the purpose of the street bike. Furthermore, its design and features are also highly communicative, which establishes its target audience well.

The bike is crafted for the upcoming bikers and youth who want their ride to be stylish, comfortable, and technologically advanced. Moreover, it shouldn’t cause a hole in their pocket. You can understand how accurate the Xtreme 160R is as it ticks all the boxes.

Of course, adding a gear shift indicator and a more comfortable pillion seat could have turned it into an even better “Streetfighter bike.” Still, even without them, it is commendable and a must-have for bikers interested in street bikes.

With just a few tweaks, such as higher performance, it could have well surpassed Bajaj NS160. But if you can let go of the minor performance difference, the Hero Xtreme 160R is a much refined and advanced bike compared to its competitors.
