The Scorpio N model has a state-of-the-art design. The company has added an upgraded chassis to this car. This new chassis is 10% lighter and weighs 213 kilometres. Also, 81% of the chassis is made up of steel to provide greater stiffness. This model also has a lower body weight of 293 kgs. The weight of the unsprung part of the suspension has also been reduced by 35 with the help of alloy parts. For improving stability, a new five-link suspension has also been added. It uses the four-wheel drive system, a “flick up” tail. The interior of this car is also up to the mark with the latest infotainment and advanced techs.
The new Mahindra Scorpio N has two engines, one is a 2.2 L turbo diesel engine and another is a 2.0 L turbo - petrol engine. The lower variants of the diesel engine produce 132 PS of power and the higher variants produce 175 PS power. Lower variants' torque output is 300 Nm and higher variants' torque output is between 370 Nm and 400 Nm for manual and automatic transmission variants respectively. However, Mahindra has not yet relieved the fuel efficiency of this model. However, the approximate fuel efficiency of this car can be mentioned as 9.5 kmpl. The peak torque of Scorpio N is almost similar for both its petrol and diesel engines. The turbo petrol engine is quite responsive even at lower speeds and the turbo lag is also well maintained. This car has a 6-Speed TC automatic transmission and it usually shifts around 200 rpm. Drivers can also take manual control by choosing the manual mode.
The mileage of Scorpio N depends on its variants. City mileage of Z2 Diesel MT 7 STR is 15kmpl while highway mileage is 18 kmpl. City mileage of Z8 Petrol MT 7 STR is 10 kmpl and highway mileage is 14 kmpl. Z8 L Petrol MT 7 STR gives a city mileage of 10 kmpl and a highway mileage of 10 kmpl.
This new model of Mahindra comes with a slatted grille with a large number of chrome additions. There is adequate power at the back and throttle input and it gives sensible responses from the motor. This car can be driven perfectly in low-speed city traffic while also being able to pull up speed when necessary. Triple digit speeds are very easy to pull up in this car without compromising safety and stability. The solid steering wheel is flexible enough for all the turns and bends. The automatic gearbox of this car is simply marvelous. But, the brakes of these model needs to be pulled extra hard, which is one of the few drawbacks of this model. The suspension is also a little jumpy which can make it difficult for off-road travel.
The front camera installed in Scorpio N helps in improving visibility while driving on difficult terrains. The parking sensors installed also work perfectly to make the driver aware of the surroundings. The engine also has the power to climb over obstacles. The sophisticated suspension of the car which is a Double Wishbone Suspension with coil-over socks at the front also helps in driving through difficult areas. The 4WD system also works perfectly. Mahindra has also designed a variant of Scorpio N for off-road travels. This particular model comes with off-road spec tyres with knobby trade patterns, flared wheel arches and metal side steps. It also has a custom-made front bumper and tapered side edges for better departure angles and a better approach.
Mahindra Scorpio N model has a luxurious interior. The interior is layered in colours brown and black for the cabin. The dashboard and the feels also have a premium feel. The dashboard is brushed in aluminum and it comes with a digital MID display and sporty steering wheel. This model comes with six and seven-seat options. Honeycomb meshes have been installed for the air dams. The skid plate has a silver finish and this model comes with twin-pod LED headlamps. Also, it has good shoulder lines. This particular model of Mahindra is designed at the Mahindra Design studio situated in Mumbai and has been engineered at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai.
The latest Mahindra Scorpio N comes with advanced tech features embedded within it. It comes with Alexa and connected techs which can be used to play music, temperature setting and others. It also works with What3Words, which is a location-finding system. This car also comes with a 12-speaker 3D sound system from Sony. There are two USB A ports at the front, a single USB C p; port in the middle and a single 12 V socket for the third row. Mahindra Scorpio N also comes with 4XPLOR terrain mode which has four intelligent settings like normal, sand, snow and mud. What3words is also embedded into it. Another innovative feature is Driver Drowsiness Detection. Scorpio N is powered by AdrenoX, which can detect the drowsiness of the driver and sends vibrations to the driver.
The safety features of Mahindra Scorpio N are highly advanced. However, the safety features are different for different models. Z2 Petrol MT 7 STR, Z2 Diesel MT 7 STR, Z4 Petrol MT 7 STR, Z4 Diesel MT 2WD 7 STR, Z6 Diesel MT 2WD 7 STR, Z4 Petrol AT 7 STR, Z4 Diesel AT 2WD 7 STR, and Z6 Diesel AT 2WD 7 STR has similar safety features. Each of these come with 2 airbags (one for driver and one for passengers), child lock, seat belt warning, Over speed warning, anchor points for a child seat, anti-theft engine immobilizer, speed sensing door lock, central locking and Flashing Emergency Brake Light. But, other models like Z8 Petrol MT 7 STR & Z8 Diesel MT 4WD 7 STR and some others come up with 6 airbags. These airbags are for drivers, 2 curtains, driver side, front passenger and front passenger side.
Scorpio N has more than 20 variants to choose from between the price ranges of Rs 14.70 lakhs and Rs 29.17 lakhs. But Z8 is the best variant of the Scorpio N model as it provides a large number of features at an affordable price range. It has a signature grille with LED projectors, diamond-cut alloy wheels, proper steering covers and different drive modes. The interior of this car is also worth the money with infotainment facilities like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This car costs Rs 22.65 lakhs for the petrol automatic variant and Rs 20.35 for the petrol manual variant. Prices for the diesel variant start between Rs 21.29 lakhs and Rs 26.77 lakhs for the automatic variant.
One of the main competitors of Scorpio N is the Tata Safari. In terms of length, both cars are quite similar. But, in terms of wheelbase, width and height Mahindra Scorpio N are better. This model has two kinds of engines, one turbo petrol engine of 2.0 litres and a diesel engine of 2.2 litres. But, Tata Safari only has one engine with 2.0 cryptic engines. Thus, options are limited. Tata safari has 6 airbags whereas some of the models of Scorpio N have only 2 airbags.
