2015 Volkswagen Jetta Launched; Prices Start at ₹ 13.87 Lakh

Volkswagen India today launched the new Jetta and has priced the car at ₹ 13.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). One must know that this is not the next-generation of the Jetta, but only a facelift. Even though it is merely a facelift, the German carmaker has tried its best to do justice to the car by making it look more grown-up.

VW had already update the Polo, CrossPolo, and the Vento, and now the Jetta. The saloon gets a new front grille, head-lamps, and fog-lamps. The rear also sees a few changes, which includes the tail-lamps and the boot lid. The car also gets DRLs this time, but they are restricted to only the top-end diesel variant.

The cabin also sports a handful of changes, like a new flat-bottomed steering wheel, much like the one found in the Polo and Vento in India. While the new steering adds to the sportiness of the car, the dual-tone interiors work on adding a premium look.

Nothing has changed under the hood; the new Jetta comes powered by the same set of engines as before, i.e. a 1.4-litre TSI and 2.0-litre TDI. While the petrol comes only with manual transmission, the diesel is available in both, the 6-speed manual and the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.

Volkswagen says that the next generation of the Jetta will arrive in India next year, and will be based on the MQB platform. For now, though, it is up to this one to take on the likes of the Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia and the Hyundai Elantra.
