It was in August this year, that Toyota unveiled the all-new look of its SUV; the Fortuner and since then the only question we have in our mind is when it's coming to India. Though we've tried prying, Toyota is tight lipped about when the car will make its way to India, we think that the Delhi Auto Expo would be the right stage to present both the cars.

2016 Toyota Fortuner Imported to India For R&D

It was in August this year, that Toyota unveiled the all-new look of its SUV; the Fortuner and since then the only question we have in our mind is when it's coming to India. Though we've tried prying, Toyota is tight lipped about when the car will make its way to India, we think that the Delhi Auto Expo would be the right stage to present both the cars. But this uncertainty has come to an end as the company has imported the SUV and it will start testing the car soon. The design language adopted by Toyota gives the Fortuner a leaner and sleeker look. This strategy has mostly worked for off-roaders from other manufacturers too. Then, there is the V-shaped twin-slat grille with a whole lot of chrome. The chin of the front bumper and the fog-lamp surrounds too come with a dash of chrome, while day time running LEDs are also a part of the package. Toyota Fortuner The side profile of the new Fortuner reveals a bit more muscle too with big wheel arches and turn indicators on the ORVMs. The 2016 Fortuner is based on Toyota's Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform that also underpins the Hilux pick-up truck and the Innova. It will continue to employ the ladder frame chassis. Toyota is planning big changes for the interior of the car too, which means that it will be comparatively more plush and will get more room this time. Two engines - the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel (148bhp) and the 2.8-litre (175 bhp) - will replace the current 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre versions. Toyota will employ these engines for the next-generation Innova too. In terms of competition, the Fortuner will rival the Hyundai Santa Fe, the new Ford Endeavour, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. We expect it to be priced between 22 lakh - 25 lakh.
