Italian bike maker MV Agusta has introduced the much awaited 2017 Brutale 800 in the country priced at Rs. 15.59 lakh (ex-showroom). The middleweight offering is regarded as one of the most desirable Italian bikes on sale currently and in the 2017 avatar, the Brutale 800 gets a tonne of upgrades over its predecessor. MV Agusta's Indian representative - Motoroyale is importing the bikes for the domestic market and will be lending after sales and service support to Indian customers. The bike is being brought as a Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) unit, which means it will attract fewer taxes as well. Here's all you need to know about the 2017 MV Agusta Brutale 800.

The styling has evolved on the 2017 MV Agusta Brutale 800 for a sharper and more tightly sculpted Italian design. The fuel tank is all-new, while the droopy headlamp now gets an elliptical LED DRL that is extremely distinctive. Also new is the tail design with neat, integrated grab rails. The bike looks equally compact than the older version and MV Agusta has managed to retain the distinctive slash-cut triple pipe design on the new Brutale 800, which has been the trademark styling on the middleweight offering.

In addition, the 2017 edition gets changes to the chassis as well. The wheelbase is 20 mm longer than its predecessor but still remains the smallest in its segment. The rake and trail have been tweaked for improved handling. The bike continues to use a lightweight single-sided swingarm. Suspension setup includes 43 mm Marzocchi USD fully adjustable front forks, while the rear sports a fully adjustable Sachs unit. Braking performance comes from the twin 300 mm discs at the front and a 220 mm single disc at the rear from Brembo with monobloc calipers.

Power on the 2017 MV Agusta Brutale 800 comes from a 798 cc inline three-cylinder engine. The motor now gets a host of changes to its internals including new intake and exhaust cams, new pistons and a new exhaust system for improved torque response. With the updates, the three-pot motor makes 109 bhp of power and 25 per cent more torque at 89 Nm. About 80 per cent of the torque, MV Agusta says is available under 4000 rpm, while peak torque kicks in much lower at 7600 rpm.

There's also MV Agusta's rider assistance software called the Motor Vehicle Integrated Control System (MVICS). The system includes 8-level traction control system, 3-level ABS and adjustable riding modes. The bike also gets a quick shifter and a slipper clutch for more aggressive shifts.

In India, the new MV Agusta Brutale 800 will compete with the likes of the Triumph Street Triple S, Kawasaki Z900 and the Ducati Monster 821.The latter has been temporarily discontinued in India and the BS-IV model will be launched later. While the former two come with in-line three cylinder motors, the Kawasaki Z900 has an in-line four engine. Also, the 111 bhp Street Triple and the 123 bhp Z900 are more powerful than the Brutale 800 and about Rs. 7 lakh cheaper as well.
