2017 Renault Captur Launched In India; Prices Start At Rs. 9.99 Lakh
Key Highlights
  • The range-topping Renault Captur Platine is priced at Rs. 13.88 lakh
  • The Captur offers improved quality materials and features over the Duster
  • Renault India is already accepting bookings for the Captur SUV

Renault Captur, the long-awaited compact SUV from the French carmaker today finally went on sale in India. The Renault Captur's price in India starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh, going up to Rs. 13.88 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), for the range-topping Platine diesel variant, which is exclusive to the Indian market. These are introductory prices and will be revised in few months. It's the second compact SUV from Renault India after the Duster and is based on the same M0 platform as well. Having said that, the Renault Captur is bit more on the premium side in terms of styling, features and equipment and here's everything you need to know about Renault's latest offering.

Renault Captur Prices:

Variants Petrol Diesel
RXE Rs. 9.99 Lakh Rs. 11.39 Lakh
RXL Rs. 11.07 Lakh Rs. 12.47 Lakh
RXT Rs. 11.69 Lakh Rs. 13.09 Lakh
Platine - Rs. 13.88 Lakh

The Renault Captur is designed as a crossover using the French car maker's global design language and has been positioned as a premium offering. India gets the Captur (with a C) moniker, same as the European version, unlike the Russian version that uses 'K' in its name. The design is quirky on the compact SUV with the bold grille and diamond logo up front, but looks smart and likeable, and very urban too. While the standard name is Captur, Renault India has added the 'Platine' suffix to the top-end variants to differentiate more effectively.

With respect to dimensions, the Renault Captur sits longer than the Duster, but is narrower and shorter than its sibling. The ground clearance though is an impressive 210 mm, much better than the competition. There are other very likeable bits too like the full LED headlamps with the dynamic LED turn indicators. You also get massive C-shaped LED DRLs integrated into the bumper, while the all-LED wraparound taillights get some neat detailing. The SUV rides on 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels on the top trims.

Inside, the Renault Captur looks premium and the materials feel upmarket as well, when compared to the Duster. The cabin is finished in a dual-tone black and white shade with the centre console hosting a large touchscreen infotainment system surrounded by gloss black inserts. The twin-pod instrument console includes a digital display that looks very sharp and futuristic.

On the Platine version, the SUV gets gold and white inserts in the cabin, while the company is also offering a host of personalisation options. While you do get features like auto climate control, navigation, steering mounted controls and more, Renault has missed out on providing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on its latest offering. Other features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist as part of the safety kit. Most of these features are standard on the new Captur.

Under the hood, the Renault Captur uses the 1.5-litre K9k diesel engine that produces 108 bhp at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 240 Nm at 1750 rpm. The 1.5-litre petrol comes loaded with 104 bhp at 5600 rpm and 142 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. Both units get manual transmission only, and while the petrol version gets a 5-speed unit, the diesel model comes mated to a 6-speed unit, just like the Duster. The Renault Duster will operate in a highly competitive space against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500 among others. The model stands out with its fresh appeal and tried and tested platform, which should bring more buyers to Renault dealers. Bookings for the Captur are already open while deliveries will commence from later this month.
