Key Highlights
  • The Multistrada V2 is now the entry-level model in the Multistrada range
  • The Multistrada 950 has been updated and renamed as Multistrada V2

Ducati has unveiled the latest generation entry-level model of its adventure sports tourer at the first episode of the Ducati World Premiere 2022 web series, in two variants. The Multistrada V2 may sound like a new name, but in effect, it's the replacement for the Ducati Multistrada 950, and is essentially re-named as Multistrada V2 with some minor updates, including a 5 kg reduction in weight, and now features Ducati Skyhook semi-active suspension in the top-spec V2 S trim. There are minor ergonomic changes over the Multistrada 950 as well. Here's a look at what we know so far about the new Ducati Multistrada V2.

The Ducati Multistrada V2 stays true to the design of the Multistrada 950 it replaces. The engine is also the same 937 cc, Testastretta L-twin, but has been updated, and has lighter components.

Design & Colours

The design of the Ducati Multistrada V2 stays true to the Multistrada 950 it replaces. The face retains its familiar appearance, but the design has got a minor update with a more tapered headlight cowl and fairing which offers more smooth and rounded surfaces for improved aerodynamics. The bodywork also features new graphics, showing off the new name to underscore that it's the latest generation entry-level Multistrada.

The Multistrada V2 in 'Street Grey' livery with 'GP Red' rims is only available in the top-spec Multistrada V2 S.

The colour range consists of the classic 'Ducati Red' colour with black rims, available for both Multistrada V2 and Multistrada V2 S, along with the new 'Street Grey' livery with black frame and 'GP Red' rims, which can only be ordered for the S variant. There are two trim levels which can be ordered straight from the factory. The Essential trim is available for both Multistrada V2 and Multistrada V2 S, while the Travel trim, with side bags, heated grips and central stand, can only be ordered for the S version.

The ergonomics have been improved, with reduced seat height of 830 mm and the saddle has been narrowed down to make the Multistrada V2 more accessible to riders of varying height and build.

Ergonomics

The ergonomics have been mildly tweaked to make the Multistrada V2 more accessible to newer and less experienced riders, and to cater to riders of different height and build. The seat height has been reduced to 830 mm, which can be reduced to 790 mm with an optional low seat and a lowered suspension kit. The shape of the saddle has also been improved to give a flat area to offer the rider more longitudinal direction movement, and allowing anyone to find an optimal riding position.

The footpegs, shared with the Multistrada V4, have been moved away, offering more room for taller riders, and for more comfort on longer journeys.

The footpegs are shared with the Multistrada V4, and have been moved 10 mm away from the seat, to ensure enough room for taller riders, and offer better comfort on longer journeys. Overall, the new Multistrada V2 is 5 kg lighter than the Multistrada 950. The engine itself is 2 kg lighter, and various parts of the bike have been lightened, including the mirrors, shared with Multistrada V4, front disc flanges and the rims, derived also from the Multistrada V4, which are 1.7 kg lighter.

The Multistrada V2 gets the same 937 cc Testrastretta engine as the Monster, and makes 111 bhp, and 96 Nm. Oil changes are at 15,000 km, while valve clearance checks are at 30,000 km.

Engine & Performance

According to Ducati, the Multistrada V2 gets the latest evolution of the 937 cc Testastretta 11-degree L-twin unit. Engine output is 111 bhp at 9,000 rpm with 96 Nm of peak torque at 7,750 rpm. The engine gets new con-rods, a new 8-disc hydraulic clutch and the gearbox has been refurbished too. Ducati recommends oil change every 15,000 km and valve clearance check every 30,000 km. The engine offers linear performance, and is smooth at low revs, with torque available across the rev range, offering sporty performance. The six-speed gearbox comes with a bi-directional quickshifter.
