2022 Hyundai Tucson Unveiled In India, Launch On August 4, 2022
Key Highlights
  • New Tucson to launch on August 4
  • Will be powered by a pair of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines
  • Bookings to open soon

Hyundai has unveiled the India-spec new-gen Tucson ahead of its launch on August 4, 2022. Like its predecessor the new Tucson is available with both petrol and diesel engine options and also gets the option of all-wheel drive. The new-gen SUV also packs in a lot of tech with Hyundai offering Level 2 Advanced Driver Aids on its flagship internal combustion SUV for India aside from a host of other features.

The Tucson follows Hyundai's Sensuous Sportiness design language with a design that is on the whole more aggressive than its staider predecessor. Hyundai's latest design language incorporates a lot of prominent cuts and creases which becomes very prominent when viewed from the side. Up front, the nose gets the new Parametric Jewel Design grille flanked by ‘jewel-design' half mirror-style inverted L-shaped LED DRLs. When turned off, the DRLs blend into the grille making the unit look wider than it is. The DRLs feature a segmented pattern in going with the geometric pattern like grille finish. The main headlamps themselves are placed in the bumper which also gets a notable central air vent and a faux skid plate element.

The rear is characterised by a raked rear windshield and a full-width light bar connecting sleek and angular tail-lamps. The rear bumper too gets a faux skid plate like element while the black plastic cladding gets a jewel-like pattern.

The new Tucson measures in at 4,630 mm long, 1,865 mm wide and 1,665 mm tall. The wheelbase is a notable 2,755 mm. The new-gen mid-size SUV sits on 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels wrapped in 235/60 section tyres

Inside the cabin layout too is all-new with the high-set centre console divides the driver and co-driver side of the cabin. The side air-con vents are neatly blended with the trim insert that separates the upper and lower dashboard with a full-digital instrument screen sitting behind the steering. The unit displays turn by turn navigation as well as parking sensor information. It is also customisable up to a degree with the display changing based on the drive mode. The centre console is dominated by a 10.25-inch touchscreen while controls for the air-conditioning are touch-sensitive buttons. The cabin is finished in a dual tone black and light grey colour scheme with the seats featuring leather upholstery.

In terms of features, the Tucson most notably gets Hyundai’s SmartSense adaptive driver aid system. The system includes, forward collision warning and avoidance, blind spot warning and avoidance assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and driver attention warning. Hyundai says that its detection and avoidance systems not only detects other vehicles but also pedestrians and cyclists.

Other tech on board includes the company’s BlueLink connected car tech with over 60 connected features, Google and Alexa home-to-car integration, Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, powered front seats, 64 colour ambient lighting and more. The home-to-car function supports commands in both Hindi and English.

On the safety front, aside from the ADAS tech, the Tucson comes equipped with 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitor, a 360 degree camera, electronic stability control and hill descent control

Coming to the engine line-up, the new Tucson will be available with a pair of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrol is a naturally aspirated unit and develops 154 bhp and 192 Nm of torque and is available solely with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.0-litre diesel meanwhile develops a stronger 184 bhp and a meatier 416 Nm and is paired with an 8-speed automatic as standard. The all-wheel drive model additionally gets terrain modes that adjust the drive to the front and rear wheels as per the requirement.
