Automatic cars are gaining more and more popularity among Indian car buyers. They are very convenient and make life so much easy for anyone who regularly drives in stop-and-go traffic. Right from conventional automatics like a torque converter, CVT and dual-clutch transmission, to semi/pseudo automatics like automated manual transmission (AMT) and intelligent manual transmission (IMT) there are several options available in the market. In fact, right now they have become highly accessible and are even offered in entry-level models. However, if you are looking for a decent automatic car, but are on a tight budget then the used car market can be your best option. While there are countless options out there, here we have listed down 6 cars that we think you should consider.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with a continuous variable transmission or CVT automatic unit

The Baleno is one of the top-selling models in Maruti Suzuki India's line-up and a very popular option in the used car market. And for those looking for an automatic premium hatchback, it could be one of the best options available. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with a continuous variable transmission or CVT automatic unit, which is a nice, effortless gearbox best suited for city driving. While a brand-new model would come at an on-road Delhi price of around Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 10.5 lakh, in the used car market you can get it for around Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh, depending on the model year, variant and the condition of the car.

The previous-gen Hyundai Grand i10, which was still on sale until a few months ago, used to come with a 4-speed torque converter unit

The Hyundai Grand i10 is also a very popular hatchback and for those looking for a convenient hatchback for the city, Hyundai also offers an automatic option. While the new-gen Grand i10 Nios is offered with an AMT unit, the previous-gen model, which was still on sale until a few months ago, used to come with a conventional 4-speed torque converter unit, and both are pretty good choices. A brand new Grand i10 Nios AMT would cost you around Rs. 7.5 lakh to Rs. 9.5 lakh on-road Delhi, however, if you look for the previous-gen model in the used car market, you'll find a pretty decent car for around Rs. 4.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh, again, depending on the model year, variant and the condition of the car.

Volkswagen Polo GT TSI

A 4 to 5-year-old pre-owned VW Polo GT TSI, with the DSG automatic gearbox, can be bought for around Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh

The Polo GT TSI is the car the made hot hatches famous in India, and even today it's considered to be the go-to option for someone looking for a performance car on a budget. Unlike the previous version that came with a DSG automatic, the newer version comes with a torque converter unit, and if you have the budget, we would suggest going for that. However, if you are on a tighter budget, or specifically want the DSG version, then check out the used car market. Right now, a new Polo GT TSI comes at an on-road price of around Rs. 11.5 lakh. At the same time a 4 to 5-year-old pre-owned Polo GT TSI, with the DSG automatic gearbox, can be bought for around Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh. However, we must tell you that the car can be expensive to maintain. Also, DSG technology is quite expensive and it could cost you a bomb to repair or replace if something goes wrong.

Its AMT version, or Auto Gear Shift (AGS) as Maruti Suzuki calls it, is one of the nicer AMT sedans available in the market that's both efficient and fun to drive. While a brand-new Dzire, AGS might cost you around Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh, in the used car market you can get one for around Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 7.5 lakh. However, that is depending on the model year, variant and condition of the car.

Honda City CVT

In the used car market, you can get a fairly recent previous gen City automatic for anywhere between Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh

The Honda City has always been a benchmark in the compact sedan space, and it is certainly famous in the used car market as well, including the automatic version that comes with a CVT unit. The Honda City CVT is one of the nicer automatic compact sedans you can buy, coupled with the powerful petrol engine it offers great performance. The new-gen Honda City CVT currently sold by the company costs around Rs. 14 lakh to Rs. 16.50 lakh (on-road Delhi). However, in the used car market, you can get a fairly recent previous gen City automatic for anywhere between Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh, depending on the model year, variant and the condition of the car.

Hyundai Creta Auto

While the new-gen Hyundai Creta that was launched last year is certainly a great option, the previous version is also still very relevant

The Hyundai Creta is currently one of the top-selling SUVs in India and is quite a popular choice among used car buyers as well. While the new-gen Creta that was launched last year is certainly a great option, the previous version is also still very relevant, and an automatic option is available in both petrol and diesel guises. A new-gen Creta automatic can cost you around Rs. 17 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh, depending on the variant, however, a slightly older, first-gen Creta automatic is available in the used car market for around Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 14 lakh. Of course, that depends on the model year, variant and the condition of the car.
