There aren't too many details about the new India-spec Volkswagen Beetle except for the fact that its exteriors will look sleeker and more modern in comparison to the old 'bubbly' design and the interiors will get a bit of a rejig as well.
Globally, the Volkswagen Beetle comes with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines - the 1.2-litre TSI petrol that delivers 105PS, the 1.4-litre TSI petrol with 160PS, the 2.0-litre TSI petrol (200PS) and the 1.6-litre diesel motor (105PS).
It is unsure as to what trim and engine versions India will receive but we think it's going to be the 2.0-litre TSI petrol and the 1.6-litre diesel variants.
As was the case with its earlier models, Volkswagen India will stick to the CBU route for the new Beetle as well, which would obviously make the car quite expensive - around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Although Volkswagen does not expect to sell too many units in India, they are insistent on maintaining the heritage of the iconic brand by keeping it in their portfolio in the country.
