UM Motorcycles, the Indian arm of American motorcycle maker UM International LLC, launched two Renegade cruiser motorcycles in India at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo today. The bikes under the Renegade range in India are the Renegade Sport S and the Renegade Commando.
A third bike, the Renegade Classic, has been unveiled at the Auto Expo as well and will be launched in June 2016.
The bikes are priced in the Rs. 1.49 - 1.59 lakh range (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company also announced that the bookings will commence from today across India.
Known for offering affordable sportbikes and cruisers, UM Motorcycles signed a strategic joint venture with Indian electric 2-wheeler manufacturer Lohia Auto in 2015. Under the agreement, a new company UML was formed with 50-50 partnership between the two companies.
The UM Renegade Commando is a low-slung cruiser bike powered by a 279cc, single-cylinder, water-cooled engine that develops a maximum power output of 25bhp at 8500rpm and 21.8Nm of peak torque at 7000rpm mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Features such as wide handlebars and hydraulic telescopic suspension at front and spring at the rear make it an ideal cruiser for day-to-day riding.
The Renegade Classic and Sport S are equipped with the same engine as the Commando. First showcased at the 2015 EICMA in Milan, the Renegade Sport S comes with an electric start. Other features are air filter with paper element, 6-speed synchronised mesh gearbox, etc. It gets telescopic suspension at the front and dual shocks abosorbers at the rear. Both the motorcycles offer a fuel tank of 18 litres and weigh 172kg with 90 per cent fuel-filled in fuel tank.
UM International, in alliance with UP-based Lohia Auto, has invested Rs. 250 crore for expanding its presence in India. Manufacturing is already underway at Lohia Auto's Kashipur facility in Uttarakhand.
Headquartered out of New Delhi, UM Motorcycles has started appointing dealers across India. Going forward, the company intends to keep the expansion momentum going by increasing their presence in Tier II and Tier III cities and towns.
