Nissan has discontinued manual variants of the Micra petrol
The Sunny petrol automatic is now available on the premium XV grade
The Terrano 83bhp and 108bhp XL variants have ben discontinued
Nissan India has made some major changes to its product portfolio in the country ahead of the festive season. The automaker has revised the variant lineup on its mass market models - Micra, Sunny and Terrano, discontinuing a host of variants. The company has axed several variants of its offerings, bringing the variant count to almost half. However, the most significant change is the fact that the Micra is now available only in the automatic version on the petrol variant.
The Nissan Micra petrol is only available with the X-Tronic CVT automatic available on the XL and XV variants. The 5-speed manual transmission has been removed from the variant lineup but continues to be available with the diesel version of the hatchback. Furthermore, the Japanese car maker has also discontinued base XE and range-topping XVP trims on the Micra diesel. The XVP grade was available with four airbags, while the XV gets dual front airbags. A driver side airbag comes as standard across the range.
Nissan Terrano
The less-expensive Micra Active has also seen some variant revision and misses out on the base XE trim and is now available in the XL, XV and XVS trims. The 5-speed manual transmission is available on the Active. Similarly, the Nissan Sunny now gets the CVT automatic on the more premium XV petrol variant; whereas the diesel XV grade with leather upholstery has been discontinued. With respect to the Terrano, Nissan has discontinued the 83bhp and 108bhp XL variants. The 108bhp diesel Terrano XV grades have also been discontinued. The compact SUV is now only available in the XL petrol, 83bhp XE and XL Plus as well as the 108bhp XV Premium grades.
The simplification of Nissan's variant lineup comes from the fact the company is choosing to concentrate on those variants that are popular. As for its future launches, Nissan's upcoming launch is the highly awaited GT-R and is all set to arrive in the country in September this year.
