BMW brought in the 2 Series Coupe in early 2014 and turns out the new BMW 2 Series Convertible is in the queue too. The 2 Series Convertible, which brings together the coupe's style and driving character with the open-air pleasure of a folding soft-top, will debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The 2015 M235i and 228i as well as the 228i xDrive, featuring BMW's intelligent all-wheel drive system, will arrive in US showrooms in early 2015. The 228i will be offered for $38,850, the 228i xDrive for $40,650, and the M235i for $48,650.
The BMW 02 range arrived over 45 years ago and BMW says the number 2 holds an important place in the company's model history. That said, the BMW 2 Series Convertible sports a low-slung silhouette and dynamically stretched lines with compact proportions and powerfully contoured surfaces.
The BMW 228i Convertible's 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine develops 240bhp and a peak torque of 305Nm, thanks to the BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with twin-scroll turbocharger, high precision direct petrol injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve lift regulation and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing. It will come mated to an 8-speed sport automatic transmission, and will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
As far s the M235i is concerned, the M Performance TwinPower Turbo inline-six in the M235i Convertible generates a maximum power of 320bhp and a maximum torque of 447Nm. Paired with the standard 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission with Launch Control function, the BMW M235i goes from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The optional 6-speed manual gearbox with dry sump lubrication allows the convertible to reach 60 mph from a standstill in 5 seconds along with an electronically limited top-speed of 250Km/h.
