Ever since Bugatti was folded into Rimac - to form the EV hypercar brand of the century, by the Volkswagen group it was pretty clear gone were the days of the gargantuan W12 engines that powered Bugattis that ruled the straight-line speed table stakes. Bugatti has now announced that it will just build 40 more Chiron hypercars as it comes close to finishing its 500 car production run. This comes despite the fact that the demand for the Chiron has spoked in the third quarter of 2021 presumably so because of the merger which indicates that these last few Chiron's could be last fully petrol-powered hypercars by the legendary French brand - there would be incredible collector's value in these cars.
The Chiron debuted 5 years ago at the Geneva Motor Show as the successor to the Veyron and Bugatti made the first customer delivery in March 2017. By May 2018, Bugatti had already delivered 100 Chirons but things slowed down thanks also to the pandemic and the 300th car only left its factory earlier this year in March. The Chiron is still available for order but only in the Pur Sport and Super Sport trims. The Pur Sport model is all about shedding 50 kg from the car to enhance its handling while the Super Sport model adds 97.6 bhp totally its stopping power to an incredible 1556 bhp.

After the merger with Rimac, it has been stated that it will operate separately but its future lies in a hybrid powertrain and the first fruit of the partnership will emerge in 2024. It could also borrow some technology from the Rimac Nevera which is the most powerful electric car on the planet with 1888 bhp and 2,460-newton meters of torque with it having the ability to go from 0-96 kph in just 1.85 seconds and also still deliver a range of 550 kilometers thanks to its 120 kWh battery.
One thing is for sure - whatever comes next from the French carmaker, it will be expensive - north of $1 million considering it already charges a special premium for its vehicles which are often shown off to its clients before being unveiled to the world.
