Maruti Suzuki India has released the sales numbers for the month of August 2021. Last month, the company's total sales stood at 130,699, witnessing nearly 5 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to 124,624 units sold in the same month in 2020. However, the company says that its sales volume was affected in August 2021 due to the electronic components shortage, a problem that several automakers have been facing globally. This becomes far more evident when we look at the 162,462 vehicles sold in July 2021, compared to which, Maruti Suzuki India saw a decline of 20 per cent in August 2021.

The carmaker's domestic sales for August 2021 stood at 110,080 units marginally low compared to the 116,704 sold during the same month last year. However, compared to the 141,238 vehicles sold in July 2021, the company saw a MoM decline of 22 per cent. In August, Maruti Suzuki also exported 20,619 vehicles from India. Compared to the 7,920 units exported in August 2020 that's a growth of 160 per cent, however, as against the 21,224 vehicles exported in July 2021, the company saw a marginal decline of 2 per cent.

Maruti's mini and subcompact segment, with cars like the Alto, S-Presso, Wagon R, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, and Dzire, collectively accounted for 66,038 units, a decline of nearly 27 per cent compared to 89,953 units sold in July 2021. However, sales of the company's compact sedan Ciaz touched 2,146 units, that a massive 48 per cent growth compared to 1450 units sold in July 2021.

Sales from the utility vehicle space, which includes the Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Gypsy and S-Cross, stood at 24,337 units, that's nearly a 25 per cent drop compared to 32,272 units sold in July 2021. As for the van segment, Maruti sold 10,666 units of the Eeco van in August 2021, marginally higher than 10,057 units sold in July 2021.
In August 2021, Maruti Suzuki also sold 2,588 units of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle, just marginally higher compared to 2,292 units sold in August 2020. However, compared to 2,768 units sold in July 2021, the company saw a 7 per cent MoM decline. Last month sales to other OEMs, that is Toyota, stood at 4,305 units.
