We have already passed two months of 2022, but a pandemic has impacted every sector of the market, and the car market is not untouched. Facing all the ups and downs of the market, there are various reasons for which manufacturers decide to stop production:
The discontinuation of diesel engines is because of the stricter BS6 emission norms implemented in April 2020.
Companies also stopped production of those models that were not accumulating the desired sales figures.
The launch of new models subsidizes the existing models to bring better technology and experiences to the customers.
Ford has exited the Indian market, so it has discontinued many of its models, and the Figo is one of them.
The Fiat Punto was among one of the earliest hot-hatches in India, launched in 2015. Its engine was not up to BS6 emission norms, thus the company decided to discontinue the model.
The discontinuation of the Tata Safari is the biggest news in the auto industry. The Safari was launched 22 years ago by Mahindra and has become a benchmark for SUV cars. But its decreasing demand and lack of features forced the company to discontinue the car.
Honda launched its Civic model in 2019, but this sedan model could not make it big on the sales charts. Thus, Honda decided to stop its assembly in Noida.
Due to BS6 engine emission norms, Maruti Suzuki decided to put off all its diesel models. For now, it might relaunch its few models with petrol variations, but for now, diesel engine production has been stopped.
Mahindra launched the XUV500 in 2011, which was a successful SUV model. But the company has decided to stop its production after 10 years due to the launch of its new variant, XUV700.
