Recently we told you about Brembo issuing a recall for high performance bikes from various manufacturers which use Brembo master cylinders on its front brake setup. Aprilia was the first to issue recalls for the RSV4 and the Tuono V4 1100 in USA and now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has revealed that Ducati too has issued a recall for a number of its models which use the Brembo brake setup. Ducati will be recalling approximately 8,000 models ranging from 2015 to 2018. The affected models are the 1299 Panigale (including the Superleggera and the Panigale Final Edition), Panigale R, Monster 1200, Multistrada 1200, Multistrada 1260, XDiavel S and the Scrambler Café Racer.

As we had mentioned earlier, the problem is that the piston in the master cylinder of the front brake is prone to cracking under heavy usage, frequent ABS intervention, riding the bikes on the racetrack or even if the motorcycle takes a fall. The faulty PR16 piston is made from a plastic called Polyphenylene Sulphide and if it does crack, it can lead to complete front brake failure. Brembo will be replacing the faulty plastic piston with one made from Aluminium.

The repair and replacement will be done free of charge of course. There are many other premium motorcycle manufacturers such as KTM and Triumph who use Brembo brakes on their popular high performance motorcycle models. We are expecting more manufacturers issuing a recall in the coming weeks.
