Ducati Scrambler 1100: All You Need To Know
Key Highlights
  • Ducati Scrambler 1100 powered by 1,079 cc L-twin engine
  • 85 bhp at 7500 rpm, 88 Nm at 4,750 rpm
  • Scrambler 1100 expected to be priced at around Rs. 11 lakh

Ducati India has launched the bigger and more powerful Scrambler 1100 with prices starting at Rs. 10.91 lakh (ex-showroom). The Scrambler 1100 has a more powerful 1,079 cc v-twin borrowed from the Monster 1100, but revised for more optimal power across the mid-range and a smoother throttle response. The Ducati Scrambler 1100 is the top-of-the-line model in the Scrambler family, and will address market demand for a more performance-oriented Scrambler. Globally, the Scrambler 1100 is available in three variants - the standard Scrambler 1100, Scrambler 1100 Special and Scrambler 1100 Sport. The Scrambler 1100 Special has been priced at Rs. 11.12 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Scrambler 1100 Sport has been priced at Rs. 11.42 lakh (ex-showroom).

Design and Features

The Scrambler 1100 is designed on the base Ducati Scrambler, but it looks beefier and bigger than the Scrambler 800. The most distinguishing feature are the upswept, twin underseat exhausts, and of course the new colours and bigger engine. The design language is the typical neo-retro design which has been seen on the smaller Scrambler, but with some minor tweaks, and revised ergonomics. The ride-by-wire throttle allows three riding modes - Active, with 85 bhp and aggressive throttle response, Journey with 85 bhp and smooth throttle response and City, with power restricted to 75 bhp. Also available are four levels of traction control, which can be switched off and Bosch cornering ABS. ABS however, cannot be switched off.

Engine and Performance

The Scrambler 1100 is powered by the 1,079 cc, L-twin engine which is tuned to make maximum power of 85 bhp at 7,500 rpm and peak torque of 88 Nm at 4,750 rpm. The engine has been tuned to have a strong mid-range and is expected to have strong acceleration, which will be welcomed by riders seeking some more performance from the neo-retro Scrambler design.

Suspension and Cycle Parts

The Scrambler 1100 isn't just a Scrambler 800 with a bigger engine. The 1100 features a new twin spar steel trellis frame, complemented by an aluminium double-sided swingarm. The ergonomics are different as well, with a larger rider triangle and slightly sporty riding position. The standard and Special variants use a fully adjustable 45 mm Marzocchi fork and a Kayaba monoshock at the rear with adjustable preload and rebound. The Sport gets higher-spec fully adjustable Ohlins 48 mm fork and an Ohlins monoshock at the rear with adjustable preload and rebound. Braking duties are handled by Brembo M4-32B Monobloc calipers squeezing 330 mm twin discs at the front, and a single 245 mm disc at the rear gripped by a two-piston Brembo caliper. Wheels are 10-spoke alloys with a 18-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. The Scrambler 1100 has a dry weight of 206 kg.

Price and Variants

The Ducati Scrambler 1100 is priced at Rs. 10.91 lakh (ex-showroom) for the standard variant. The Special has been priced at Rs. 11.12 lakh (ex-showroom), and the Sport with Ohlins suspension is priced at Rs. 11.42 lakh (ex-showroom). The standard variant will be available either in Yellow or Shining Black, while the Special will be available in a custom grey colour with chrome exhausts, a custom brown seat and aluminium mudguards. The Scrambler 1100 has no direct rival in India at the moment, but at that price point, it competes with the Suzuki GSX-S1000 and even the Triumph Street Triple RS.
