Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 Unveiled: The Most Affordable Bike From Ducati
Once Ducati brought out the Scrambler, there were rumours about a smaller displacement on the cards and well, here it is. Ducati announced several updates to its 2016 lineup for the the EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori) which is better known as the Milan Motorcycle Show in Italy. But one of the all-new bikes to hit the scenes was the 399cc Scrambler Sixty2.

The bike is based on the design of the Scrambler and we see minimal changes done to it. The Sixty2 targets entry-level riders and further expands the list of small-displacement offerings, which will also make it the cheapest Ducati out there in the market. We say that because the Scrambler is already available in India and costs Rs. 6.78 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Scrambler Sixty2 might come priced Rs. 4.75 (ex-showroom Delhi) which will make it the cheapest and most affordable Ducati in India.

According to the folks at Ducati, the Sixty2 draws inspiration from youth street culture, skateboards, street food, pop music and the year 1962, which is when the very first Ducati Scrambler was launched. The name, therefore, is a tribute to an important year of the Ducati Scrambler motorcycle history.

Ducati Scrambler Sixty2

The small displacement Sixty2 is half of the regular Scrambler's 803cc and this has been achieved via a 72mm bore and 49mm stroke (compared to 88mm x 66mm architecture on the Scrambler)

The Sixty2 retains Ducati's signature L-Twin configuration and there's a wet, cable-actuated clutch, six-speed gearbox and chain final drive which feeds power to the rear wheels. There's good amount of power on offer too. The 399cc Desmodronic, air-cooled engine is capable of 41bhp as compared to the 75bhp on offer on the 803cc Scrambler.

When it comes to looks, the Sixty2 gets a steel trellis frame and this makes it look similar to the Scrambler. The 41mm Showa fork is not inverted, while Kayaba rear shock is adjustable for preload. Both the suspension components offer 5.9 inches of wheel travel which is similar to that on the Scrambler.

There are two-piston floating calipers pinching a single 320mm rotor which handle the braking duties up front, while the rear gets a single-piston and 245mm rotor rear brake setup. Yes, there's a two-channel Bosch ABS system which comes as part of standard equipment.

This small capacity Ducati is definitely for emerging markets and its launch in India is imminent. BMW Motorrad have already unveiled the G310R and which will be a close competitor of the Sixty2, however, we'll know more about their launch in India soon. So, stay tuned!
