Carlos Sainz Jr won his first F1 race as Ferrari closed the gap on Red Bull in the 2022 F1 Constructor's championship. Sainz won the race after a late safety car triggered by the retirement of Ocon who landed up on soft tyres that Leclerc had. Leclerc managed P4 after being P3 for the large part of the race. Verstappen who started in P2 ran into technical issues with a damaged floor which resulted in an additional pitstop and generally reduced performance. He ended up P7 just ahead of Schumacher in the Haas.

In the opening lap there was catastrophic accident that resulted in Guanyu Zhou in the Alfa Romeo crashing into the sidewalls upside down when he touched George Russell in the Mercedes. Alongside these two, Ocon in the Alpine, Gasly in the AlphaTauri, Albon in the Williams and Bottas in the second Alfa Romeo retired.
Hamilton managed P3 after he managed to overtake Leclerc who was stricken by some wing damage in the last few legs of the race. Alonso managed P5 in the Alpine just behind Leclerc in the Ferrari. Norris was the lead McLaren in P6. Birthday boy, Vettel managed P9 in the Aston Martin ahead of Magnussen in the second Haas.
Stroll came P11 in the second Aston Martin ahead of Latifi in the lead Williams as Albon crashed in the first lap when the red flag was activated. Ricciardo in the McLaren and Tsunoda capped up the P13 and P14 as 6 cars retired from the race after the chaotic opening lap.
