When India was first dropped from the 2014 F1 calendar, I was very upset. However, people consoled me with "it will come back in 2015 anyway, so don't worry". Turns out, all those attempts were in vain because Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that the 2015 Indian Grand Prix will not happen after all.
After dropping India from the 2014 calendar, the top-guys at F1 said they intended to return to the Buddh International Circuit in an early-season role for 2015. Before I delve into what went wrong, you ought to know that F1 is classified as entertainment instead of sport in India, which results in the levying of a lot of taxes. Then there is also all the issue of surmounting bureaucracy to bring in equipment for race weekends.
Bernie Ecclestone clarified that it is too late for a 2015 return of the Indian Grand Prix and the concerned organisers must settle contractual obligations if they wish to keep the hopes of a possible comeback in 2016 alive. He added that Jaypee Group failed to sort out the 5-year contract in time for a return next year.
Since the FIA approves the next season's calendar in September and the final one in December, I suppose Formula One fans in India will have to wait another year to indulge in some live-action, if at all.
