The standard BMW 3 Series sedan underwent a slight nip/tuck earlier this year and now it is the time for the 3 Series GT to get a mid life facelift. The 3 Series GT is essentially a larger and more comfortable version of the sedan with coupe-like styling. However, it is a little more practical since there is a more leg space in the rear and the hatchback boot-lid offers more (and easier) storage solutions.
Just like with the saloon, the updates on the GT are very minor and would require one to be a BMW aficionado to notice them. You get a slightly redesigned headlamp console with a new LED daytime running light pattern and a set of new wheels. The headlights also get a full LED setup with a camera-based adaptive assist setup. The 3 GT still continues to get the frameless door design and the rear bootlid mounted electronic spoiler than can be controlled by the driver or deployed automatically.
(2016 BMW 3 Series GT)Internationally, the 3 GT now gets a M-Sport package with sporty bumpers, larger wheels and a more aggressive stance. However, considering the fact that the 3 GT hasn't been a hot seller for BMW in India, this variant is unlikely to make it here. The 3 GT also gets a slightly upgraded exhaust system with dual exhausts tips (one on each side) as compared to a two-tip setup that was available on the earlier models.
The current 3 GT is available only with a diesel 320d spec engine but considering the fact that the petrol luxury car resurgence has been one quite obvious, BMW should have a 320i variant on the GT too. The sub 2.0-litre diesel engine will make 188bhp of peak power and 400Nm of peak torque while the petrol (if launched) would be a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 181bhp of peak power and 270Nm of peak torque. Expect prices to be between Rs 43-45 lakh (ex-showroom) in line with the current pricing of the car.
