Henrik Fisker's much-hyped EV startup Fisker has revealed that it will have its Indian headquarters in Hyderabad, the capital of the Telangana state in Southern India. Fisker had already announced that it was planning on launching its first EV - the Fisker Ocean in India and also had plans to locally manufacture and sell its next EV, dubbed the Fisker Pear. The Indian headquarters adds to its engineering and product development facilities in Southern California. This facility will be responsible for virtual vehicle development and software.

Only in February, Fisker opened reservations for its next electric car the Pear despite its first EV, the Ocean hitting production. The Fisker Ocean is expected to be manufactured by Magna in Austria. It also has a partnership with Foxconn for manufacturing which will likely be its contract manufacturer in India, if and when it starts local assembly of its cars.
Fisker Vigyan Pvt Ltd is the name of the local Indian entity and it will add another 200 employees to the already 450 strong automotive startup. The focus of the facility will be on software development, embedded electronics, machine learning, data analytics, and virtual vehicle development.

"Our expansion into India represents both a strategic market opportunity and a significant boost to our global engineering capabilities. We have already started local hiring in India and expect our new team in Hyderabad to be fully operational and engaged in multiple product programs within weeks. Our talent pool in India will help us pave the way for the launch of Fisker Ocean and Fisker PEAR in India," said founder and CEO Henrik Fisker at the announcement.

In November, Fisker will launch the Ocean in the US market, but in 2022 it also has plans to launch the vehicle in Europe. India is also slated to get the car, but that will likely be 2023 or even 2024 after the North American and European launches are done and it is prepared to make an entry in Asia.
Foxconn which now has a pretty sizeable presence in India has already said that it plans on manufacturing EVs in India. Fisker's vehicles could be the first ones that it makes in India. Foxconn is the world's largest contract manufacturer and is known the world over for being the manufacturer of the iPhone, amongst other Apple gadgets and products from other brands.
