Force India today launched the top-of-the-line model of its popular off-road SUV Gurkha. Christened the Force Gurkha Xtreme, the new three-door off-roader is priced in India at Rs. 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes with a 4x4 as standard. Force India will be selling the SUV across the country in a phased manner. The biggest changes, of course, is the new engine Mercedes-Benz derived OM611 2.2-litre common rail diesel unit that makes close to 140 bhp and 321 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, which again, has been sourced from Mercedes-Benz.

Speaking on this occasion, Ashutosh Khosla, President Sales and Marketing, Force Motors said, "The Gurkha Xtreme is being introduced in a phased manner with the first lot of vehicles being delivered to select customers who have been waiting since long for this variant. With the introduction of the Gurkha Xtreme, our portfolio of off-roading vehicles is complete with variants to take care of every segment, be it mild, moderate or extreme off-roading. The best part of the Gurkha Xtreme is that it is adaptable for competitive off-roading."
Force Gurkha Xtreme comes with a small facelift with new cosmetic additions
Visually, the new Force Gurkha Xtreme has undergone a facelift with a bold new front, which features a single-slat grille, classic round headlamps with a grille, and a heavy-duty front bumper with metal skid plate. However, the indicators on the Gurkha Xtreme are LED now, instead of the orange ones in the Xplorer. The Gurkha Xtreme also gets new wheels and we also see the Xtreme badging on either side of the SUV. The signature chrome finish air intake snorkel, muscular side cladding, new attractive bold graphics, large ORVMs, sturdy and full-length slip resistant footboard, and increased width all-terrain tubeless tyres are standard.

As for its off-road capabilities, the new Force Gurkha Xtreme also comes with a new transfer case and a new live rigid axle in the front, the only vehicle in this class to offer one. It also gets high strength C-in-C chassis and coil spring suspension for improved on-road handling and ride comfort along with extreme off-roading ability. It is also the only vehicle that comes with differential locks on both front and rear axles to come out of sticky situations, and air intake snorkel for deep water wading. The SUV also offers provision to fit hub locks on the front axles that help saving fuel as well as reducing stress on the drivetrain while in 2WD.
