Ford Recalls More Than 48,000 EcoSport to Fix Multiple Faulty Parts
Key Highlights
  • Ford recalls almost 48,700 Ecosport SUVs in India
  • Potential problems include - faulty brake, fuel lines and rear seat
  • Almost 700 EcoSports will be recalled just for the faulty rear seat
It was less than a month ago that Ford India issued a recall for two of its popular cars - the Figo Aspire and the Figo hatchback due to issues related to Restraint Control Module (RCM). Now the American carmaker has issued another recall for over 48,000 EcoSport compact SUVs in India. It has been revealed that the company has found multiple problems in the EcoSport that includes - faulty brake, fuel lines and rear seat backrest. Ford claims that these are just potential concerns and they have voluntarily issued this recall keeping customer safety in mind. Additionally Ford will also recall approximately 700 EcoSports to replace the bolts used the rear seat.

Apparently the 48,000 Ford EcoSports that are being recalled are all diesel powered vehicles and were manufactured between April 2013 and June 2014. These particular models are facing potential problems related to fuel lines and brakes and the company has announced that it plans to install new bundle clip on the fuel and brake lines. Commenting on this issue the company says that, ""In its commitment to quality and complete transparency, Ford India is issuing two voluntary safety recalls to correct potential concerns with certain Ford EcoSport vehicles. The first recall covers approximately 48,000 EcoSport diesel vehicles, made between April 2013 and June 2014, to install a new bundle clip on the fuel and brake lines."

As for the additional 700 EcoSport vehicles with rear seat problem, they were manufactured between January 2016 and February 2016. Apparently these particular vehicles were fitted with 60:40 rear folding seats and the company believes that the 40 per cent section of the rear seat backrest might have been assembled with bolts aren't up to the mark and there is chance they might break. The company says, "On certain vehicles, the 40% rear seat backrest might have been assembled with bolts that do not meet Ford's material specification, potentially causing the bolts to break."

Ford has claimed that there have been no customer complaints, accidents or injuries as a result of either of these concerns. The company is asking owners of the affected Ford EcoSport vehicles to get in touch with their nearest local Ford dealer so that the necessary rework can be carried out. The company has also announced that all repair charges related to these issues will be free of cost.
