Panasonic Jaguar Racing is the latest Formula E team to showcase its Season 5 contender and has released the concept livery for the I-TYPE 3 race car. The Gen2 electric racer will be contesting in the 2018-19 FIA Formula E Championship. Apart from Jaguar, the likes of Audi and Nissan also revealed concept liveries for Season 5, while Mahindra Racing too revealed its Season 5 contender - M5 Electro last month. Jaguar's concept livery though previews close to what the Season 5 contender will look like, which will be officially revealed later this year.

Speaking about the I-TYPE 3 concept livery, team principal James Barclay said, "This is a really exciting day for Panasonic Jaguar Racing as we take the next step on our electrification journey. We joined the championship so that we could take learnings from Formula E and directly transfer them from race to road to help shape future electric vehicles for Jaguar Land Rover. The concept livery of the Jaguar I-TYPE 3 is a progression from this season's race car which we will unveil later this year."
The concept livery carries the black and green paint scheme, which complements the new design of the Gen2 car. Season one champion Nelson Piquet Jr got behind the wheel of the I-TYPE 3 in its first official test at Monteblanco last month, while teammate Mitch Evans will be driving the all-electric car during the test outing.

The Gen2 Formula E car was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show 2018 in March and gets a radical new design along with a host of new upgrades with respect to power and range. The new car also incorporates the Halo cockpit protection device, which has been mandated across all single-seater race cars by the FIA.
Starting with Season 5, the Gen2 will be capable of completing a full race distance on a single charge, eliminating the mid-race car swap completely, which have featured since the first season in 2014. The new car also gets a more powerful electric motor that can push up to 250 kw (about 335 bhp) and can hit 0-100 kmph in 2.8 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the Gen1 car. The potential top speed is 280 kmph.

The next round of Formula E Season 4 is being held in Rome, for the first time. Jaguar currently stands fourth in the constructors' standings having scored points in every round so far including a podium finish in Hong Kong. The top three spots are taken by Techeetah, Mahindra Racing and DS Virgin Racing.
