Formula E Marrakech ePrix Winners
The Mahindra driver took an early lead in the race, but ended up using marginally more energy over his competitors initially. The move helped Sam Bird overtake Rosenqvist, before Jean-Eric Vergne of Techeetah moved to second. Rosenqvist led for 27 of 33 laps, but pitted earlier than other drivers for swapping electric cars.
Mahindra and Renault have secured back-to-back podiums this season
After car swaps, Rosenqvist led Vergne by five seconds with Buemi, having just passed Bird after a brief off-track moment, leading to 10 seconds in arrears. Rosenqvist saved a margin of more than four seconds over Vergne before, having stopped at the end of lap 16 while the Techeetah driver following him into the pitlane. However, the gap started to come down immediately, with Buemi gaining on Rosenqvist and Verge, with the latter gaining a penalty for speeding in the pitlane. With the Techeetah driver out of the picture, Buemi now had to overtake the Mahindra driver to seal his victory, which he eventually did in the final stages.
The next Formula E is scheduled in February 2017 at Buenos Aires
While Mahindra may not have secured a win in the Marrakech ePrix, the back-to-back wins have helped the team consolidate a joint second position in the championship standings, while team Renault e.dams continues to lead the team standings. Meanwhile, Mahindra's second and more experienced driver Nick Heidfeld wasn't at his best after securing the podium during the Hong Kong ePrix. The Mahindra driver finished ninth on the grid behind Oliver Turvey and Jean-Eric Vergne. Formula E will now return in February next year at Buenos Aires.
