Domestic fuel rates have been increased for the fourth consecutive day. As per notification from Indian Oil Corporation, petrol and diesel prices have been hiked by 35 paise each in the national capital. With new rates coming into effect, two auto fuels in Delhi have touched all-time highs of Rs. 107.24 per litre and Rs. 95.97 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol has surpassed the Rs. 113-mark, currently priced at Rs. 113.12 a litre. Diesel also touched a new all-time high in the city, retailing at Rs. 104 a litre.

Petrol price in Mumbai is the highest among all metros at Rs. 113.12 per litre

In Chennai, petrol has crossed the Rs. 104-mark retailing at Rs. 104.22 per litre while diesel has soared to Rs. 100.25 a litre. Customers in Kolkata will now have to pay Rs. 107.78 per litre for petrol and Rs. 99.08 a litre for diesel. The two auto fuels in Hyderabad are priced at Rs. 111.55 per litre and Rs. 104.70 per litre. In Bengaluru, petrol is inching towards Rs. 111-mark, currently priced at Rs. 110.98 a litre while diesel costs Rs. 101.86 a litre.
In Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar, petrol touched a new high of Rs. 119.42 per litre while diesel is above Rs. 110 per litre, selling at Rs. 110.26 a litre. Petrol in Bhopal has jumped to Rs. 115.90 a litre, while diesel is priced at Rs. 105.27 a litre. In the Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, fuel rates stood at Rs. 118.71 a litre and Rs. 107.87 a litre, respectively. Customers in the Parbhani district of Maharashtra will have to shell out Rs. 116.08 a litre and Rs. 105.25 a litre for petrol and diesel, respectively. In Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, petrol and diesel rates stand at Rs. 118.32 and Rs. 107.51 a litre, respectively.

Fuel rates differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as value-added tax (VAT). Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Indian Oil Corporation are the country's three major oil marketing firms and they revise fuel rates on daily basis. They also make necessary changes to align the petroleum prices with the global benchmark and dollar-rupee exchange rate.
