French motorcycle company Furion is in the process of developing a hybrid motorcycle - which combines a rotary engine and an electric motor. Although the bike is still a concept, Furion intends to crowdfund the project, called the M1. The M1 will have two motors - a 654 cc two-rotor rotary engine making around 125 bhp and a 40 kW electric engine powered by lithium batteries, making around 55 bhp. The two motors are housed in a steel trellis frame.
Furion M1 hybrid motorcycle concept
Transmission is a six-speed unit, and the bike will get high-quality components - 43 mm adjustable upside down fork and a preload and rebound adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by 310 mm twin petal discs, with four piston radial calipers. Rear brake is a single 250 mm petal disc with a single-piston caliper. The bike will have two different riding modes - long range mode offering the best fuel economy and a sport mode, which will offer the bike's full 180 bhp power. Combined torque of both the engines is a massive 205 Nm. With a kerb weight of 209 kg, the bike promises to be performance-oriented.
Furion Motorcycles M1 hybrid concept
Furion claims the M1 will return class-leading fuel efficiency, with the ability to travel over 400 km on a single tank of fuel. The Furion M1 is the result of designer Marc Evenisse's imagination. The company is based in France, and is a collaboration between two engineering schools, industrial partners and a team of 56 consultants. Also on the development team is Adrien Chareyre, four times super motorcycle world champion.
