The Triumph Infor Streamliner is powered by 2 turbocharged Rocket III engines
The salt flats at Bonneville offered near perfect conditions during the land speed practice week. Just after 8:30am Guy Martin and team set off on the first run of the day. Martin accelerated the Infor Rocket Streamliner to a staggering 274.2 mph, rewriting Triumph's history in the process. Just after the two mile marker (3.21 km), he came to a controlled stop near to the team's base camp to be greeted by the news that he had broken the record.
Following a successful practice session at the Bonneville Salt Flats, achieving a speed of 274.2 mph (441.28 km/h), Triumph has now confirmed the attempt to set a new outright motorcycle Land Speed World Record that is scheduled to take place mid-September this year, should the weather permit.
Built for the deed, the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner features a carbon Kevlar monocoque construction with two turbocharged Triumph Rocket III engines producing a combined output of 1000bhp at 9000 rpm. The motorcycle is 25.5-feet long, 2-feet wide and 3-feet tall. The motor is powered by methanol fuel and the bike competes in the Division C (streamlined motorcycle) category.
Guy Martin will now attempt to hit break the land speed record at Salt Flats
Triumph has had a history of breaking the land speed record, holding the title of 'World's Fastest Motorcycle' between 1955 to 1970. The previous record-breaking Triumph Streamliners include Devil's Arrow, Texas Cee-gar, Dudek Streamliner and Gyronaut X1. It was the Gyronaut X-1 though that held record for the longest time. Currently, the land speed record is held by Rocky Robinson since 2010 piloting the Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner that achieved a top speed of 376.363 mph (605.697 km/h).
The land speed record has been extremely important to Triumph and the company's Bonneville range pays tribute to the motorcycle maker's association with the flats. The iconic Bonneville name was conceived following Johnny Allen's land-speed record runs at the Salt Flats in September 1956, when he reached the record breaking speed of 193.72 mph (311.76 km/h). Triumph's first T120 Bonneville model was unveiled at the Earls Court Bike Show and went on sale in 1959.

The record run has further added to Guy Martin's confidence in his commitment to break the World two wheeled Land Speed record. The TT legend managed to impress the team with his ability to master the Infor Rocket Streamliner, and was able to achieve the goals set by Crew Chief and Triumph Streamliner designer Matt Markstaller and his team with the required level of control.
