Hino which is a commercial truck maker has a rig for the 2022 Dakar Rally which has 1,050 bhp and 2,295-newton meters of torque is a monster. The truck is based on the Hino 600 series and has an 8.89-liter inline-six turbo diesel engine. The truck's engine makes 778 bhp on its own and when it is coupled with a hybrid system that adds 272 bhp - it becomes a monster with an 800-liter fuel tank that will make sure it keeps going through the desert.
It gets power via a 6-speed automatic transmission with full-time all-wheel drive. There's a center differential lock and transfer case that also allows switching between high and low range gearing. Hino has said that it has a lightweight construction with rear bodywork using aluminum and fiberglass - and the overall rig weighs a massive 8,600 kg.
The monstrous vehicle has a hybrid power plant
Hino last competed in the Dakar Rally and came in last place amongst the vehicles of its class. It will have rivals from many European brands like Kamal, Maz, Iveco, and Tatra. This hybrid power plant should be able to give it a bit of an edge next year.
At the Dakar Rally, Toyota has a rugged Hilux pickup truck that has a 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 which has been borrowed from the Land Cruiser and has an impressive engine output of 403 bhp. There is also the Audi RS Q E-Tron which has front and rear electric motors which adapt the 2021 E-Tron FE07 Formula E-Car. It even gets a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The Dakar rally is scheduled from January 2 to January 14 and will take place fully in Saudi Arabia. It is supposedly one of the most grueling and dangerous motor sporting events.
