Honda Cars India has updated its popular selling City sedan for the 2016 model year with a new variant. The sedan has now received the VX (O) BL grade added to its lineup and also gets dual front airbags and rear ISOFIX anchors for child seats as standard across the complete range. Since its launch in 2014, the fourth generation City was only offered with ABS and EBD as standard safety equipment across the range, and the move to offer airbags is a big welcome.
Talking about the new variant, the Honda City VX (O) BL is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, paired to a manual transmission. The variant adds all-new black leather upholstery in the cabin, integrated touchscreen AVN (Audio Visual Navigation) system and a sunroof. Colour options on the sedan comprise of Premium White Orchid Pearl and Alabaster Silver shades.

Announcing the newly enriched City line up, Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India said, "Our endeavour has always been to offer best-in-class products to our customers and we are happy to offer premium and luxurious black leather interiors in the City. With the aforementioned additions, prices on the Honda City have not increased save for the base variant. That said, prices for the sedan start at Rs. 8.10 lakh for the base petrol E trim, going up to Rs. 12.42 lakh for the VX (O) BL diesel variant. The City sedan made its Indian debut in January 1998 and has been one of the most popular and steadily selling cars for Honda as well as the C-segment space.
Honda did see a drop in numbers when the market switched to diesel power, but the model managed to regain its popularity once the 1.5-litre diesel i-DTEC was introduced. If recent reports are to be believed, the Japanese car maker will update the City in India later this year with a 6-speed automatic transmission after introducing it in the BR-V compact SUV.
