Honda's first MPV for the Indian automobile market - the Mobilio - is undoubtedly an overall good product. Now that we have driven the car and know everything about it, here's why we think that the Mobilio is a much better product than its rivals - Maruti Ertiga and Chevrolet Enjoy.
Mileage
Powered by the country's most frugal diesel engine - the 1.5-litre i-DTEC, the Mobilio delivers an impressive 24.2Km/l. On the other hand, Ertiga and Enjoy are powered by a 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine and claim a mileage of 20.77Km/l and 18.2Km/l, respectively.
The petrol version of the MPV houses a 1.5-litre i-VTEC unit, which also powers the Honda City. Interestingly enough, this engine returns 17.3Km/l, which is again better than that of the Ertiga and Enjoy's petrol models.
Power
This is yet another department, in which both, the petrol and diesel versions of the Mobilio, prove to be better than rivals. Mobilio's 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine produces 99bhp and 200Nm, while the 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine delivers even better performance with 117bhp and 145Nm of torque. The Ertiga's 1.3-litre DDiS diesel and 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engines return 89bhp and 200Nm, and 94bhp and 130Nm, respectively. The Enjoy's diesel engine is the least powerful of the three, with 74bhp of power and 173Nm of torque. However, the 1.4-litre Smartech petrol engine puts out slightly better performance than that of the Ertiga with 99bhp and 131Nm.
Spaciousness
Measuring 4386mm in length, the Mobilio certainly looks bigger than its rivals. Though the Ertiga has rides on a wheelbase of 2740mm and is also wider (1695mm) and taller (1685mm) than the Mobilio, the latter manages to offer better cabin space, thanks to Honda's 'Man maximum, machine minimum' philosophy. The Enjoy also proves to be a very spacious vehicle with 4305mm of length, 1680mm of width, 1750mm of height and 2720mm of wheelbase.
Ground Clearance
Both, Ertiga and Mobilio score well for their respective ground clearance. Despite being mid-sized MPVs, these vehicles offer 185mm of ground clearance, which makes them better than many so-called SUVs out there. So it's definitely a plus for the Mobilio, since a better ground clearance will help the car easily tackle patchy and uneven roads.
Interior Quality
Honda seems to have worked really hard to give comfortable and plush interiors to the Mobilio. Quality of the plastic and seat fabric on the MPV will likely to better in comparison to Ertiga and Enjoy. Moreover, Mobilio will also house several advanced features that are aimed at making the drive even more convenient.
