Mercedes-Benz announced an onslaught of electrified models at the 2021 IAA Munich Mobility show. And the company has pulled the wraps off the new EQB electric SUV for Europe. As the name suggests, the Mercedes-Benz EQB is the electrified version of the GLB crossover and packs electric motors along with visual tweaks. Much like the internal combustion engine (ICE) powered GLB, the electric model retains much of that boxy profile that makes the model so likeable. The new EQB originally made its global debut in Shanghai this year but we now see the European spec that will be sold in North America as well. This is also the version that India will most likely get if and when the model arrives here.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB retains the boxy profile of the GLB but gets the new gloss black finished grille up front and new headlamps
The new Mercedes-Benz EQB gets the new front with the gloss-black finish on the grille with twin slats in the centre. There's also the full-width LED light bar and sharper-looking bumper. At the rear, the model comes with a full-width taillight with signature elements and a rugged looking bumper. The model rides on 20-inch alloy wheels. The cabin sports the 10.3-inch dual screens that run the latest MBUX user interface. The seats get a dual-tone theme, while there's plenty of brushed aluminium to offer a premium look. The electrified EQB continues to be a seven-seater like the GLB.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB will be offered in two variants in Europe. The EQB 300 packs 225 bhp and 390 Nm of peak torque, while the EQB 350 develops 288 bhp and 521 Nm of peak torque. Mercedes says that the EQB line-up will be further extended with the addition of a front-wheel-drive version, as well as a longer-range offering with more power in the future. At present, the EQB 300 and the EQB 350 are all-wheel-drive versions with two electric motors, one on each axle.

Power comes from the 66.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Mercedes claims a WLTP range of 419 km on a single charge. This pits the model against the likes of the Audi Q4 e-tron, Volkswagen ID.4, and the Tesla Model Y in the segment. There's no word on the pricing yet but the model is expected to start around the $50,000 mark in the US. Meanwhile, there's no word on when the EQB will arrive in India. The company is yet to introduce the GLB in the country, and we do think the EQB will be a nice addition.
