The ongoing 2021 IAA Mobility Show in Munich is all about the brand new unveils and there's an onslaught of electric offerings. And joining the bandwagon is Porsche that has pulled the wraps off its Mission R concept race car. The new electrifying concept is a first for the automaker in the motorsport arena and previews a future zero-emissions race car for customers. Porsche even spoke about a one-make series in the future but there aren't any plans announced for the same.

The Porsche Mission R Concept packs 1073 bhp from its electric motors in what the company calls qualification mode
The new Porsche Mission R Concept racer combines state-of-the-art technologies and sustainable materials including natural fibre-reinforced plastics, with the brand's racing DNA. The low-slung, all-electric competition car features the characteristic lines of Porsche sports cars, while power comes from new-generation electric motors that offer a combined output of 1073 bhp (800 kW) in what the company calls qualification mode. The battery capacity is around 80 kWh and the innovative recuperation system can make sprint racing possible with no loss of output.
In terms of performance figures, the Mission R concept can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 2.5 seconds with a top speed of 300 kmph. Porsche says the performance of its new electric concept is comparable to that of the 911 GT3 Cup.

The Mission R uses natural fibre reinforced plastic (NFRP) in its construction that's made out of sustainable materials
The Porsche Mission R's motors can develop a constant power output of 670 bhp (500 kW), while the advanced 900-volt technology or Porsche Turbo Charging, allows for the oil-cooled battery to be charged in just 15 minutes from five to 80 per cent. Charging can take place with up to 340 kW. The Mission R also features Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) with Drag Reduction System (DRS) on the nose section and rear wing.
The brand says sustainability is also important in the development of the concept. The front spoiler lip, the diffuser and the side skirts are largely made of natural fibre reinforced plastic (NFRP). It's also extensively used in the interior door panels, rear bulkhead and seat. Other notable bits in the cabin include digital screens comprising a host of data as well as images from side mirror cameras. There are numerous cameras in the interior that can be used for live streaming. The roll cage is built out of carbon fibre composite material.

In terms of proportions, the Porsche Mission R measures 4326 mm in length which is slightly shorter than the current 718 Cayman series. The model is considerably wider at 1990 mm with a height of 1190 mm. Porsche says there are no immediate plans to put this concept into production for motorsport duties. But the model does showcase the future cup car from the manufacturer.
