Intermot 2016: Suzuki Unveils New 2017 GSX-R125, GSX-R1000 & GSX-R1000R

Suzuki has revealed the new GSX family at the ongoing 2016 Intermot Motorcycle Show in Cologne that starts with the new entry-level GSX R125, while the flagship Suzuki has received its most comprehensive update as the all-new 2017 GSX R1000 is a completely new motorcycle and is joined by the fiesty new GSX R1000R that has enhanced performance to offer.

Suzuki has revealed the new GSX family at the ongoing 2016 Intermot Motorcycle Show in Cologne that starts with the new entry-level Gixxer - the GSX R125, while the flagship Suzuki has received its most comprehensive update as the all-new 2017 GSX-R1000 is a completely new motorcycle with a newly developed litre-class engine, improved aerodynamics, more electronics, while also receiving a weight reduction in the process. What's also interesting is that the new GSX is joined by the fiesty new GSX-R1000R with enhanced performance on offer. The all-new GSX-R1000 emerges from the concept revealed at the 2015 EICMA Motorcycle Show last year and is the most comprehensive update the litre-class Gixxer has received in eight years. With the new GSX, Suzuki has also used technology from MotoGP and that definitely makes the model all the more promising. While several elements on the bike were expected, Suzuki has pulled a surprise by offering not just the standard version, but also the track specific GSX-R1000R (Yes! With the extra R) as well at Intermot that bumps out more power. 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 With MotoGP Livery Most importantly, an all-new powerplant has been equipped on the 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000, as the 1000cc four-cylinder engine now meets Euro4 emission standards and comes with variable valve timing (VVT). The VVT uses ball bearings that move along the cam gear, and change their orientation as it spins faster. The engine length has also been reduced by canting it backward by six degrees. This, in return, changes the gearing for the intake timing creating more power on the top end by 5 per cent. As a result, the new GSX becomes the latest of the litre-class offerings to break the 200PS barrier with 202PS of power on offer (199 bhp) available at 13,200rpm along with 117.6Nm of peak torque available at 10,800rpm. 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000R The 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 also gets a new frame with the width reduced for improved aerodynamics, while also being 10 per cent lighter than its predecessor. Suspension duties are performed by Showa’s Big Piston Fork, and its matching shock absorber. The GSX-R1000R in turn, gets Showa’s Balance Free Fork and Balance Free Cushion rear shock. The 2017 GSX-R1000R adds a launch control system, a first for Suuzki, in addition to a quick shift system. The electronics on the 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and 1000R make for an interesting package that includes a six-axis IMU, which brings a 10-level traction control system, Motion Track Brake System, stoppie control system, three riding modes, cornering ABS. Both the GSX-R1000 and R1000R will be going on sale in next year, the extra R will be available a little in the year. With the model already being sold in the currently, we can expect Suzuki to introduce both models in India via the CBU route by mid-2017. Expect a price hike though in return for all the goodies on offer. 2017 Suzuki GSX-R125 Apart from the new GSX models, Suzuki also revealed the completely new GSX-R125 at Intermot, the company 125cc full-faired motorcycle. Quit the stunner to look, the baby GSX is sharp, looks track-bred and will come with Suzuki's easy start feature and ABS as standard. The complete specifications however, are yet to be announced. While the new GSX-R125 will be going on sale with the Aprilia RS4 and Yamaha YZF-125 in Europe, do not expect an Indian launch of the bike, given the higher value of the bike.
