We all know how competitive the automotive world can get, and if rumours are to be believed, Jaguar is planning to take on the BMW M3 with a performance version of its upcoming XE saloon. The Jaguar XE SVR will borrow its powertrain from the F-Type S, i.e. the supercharged 5.0-litre V8, which will be tuned to deliver a performance worth 489bhp. The 5.0-litre supercharged motor will endow the car with an electronically limited top-speed of 249Km/h and will also it to achieve the 0 - 100Km/h mark in about 4 seconds.

The XE SVR will use the company's 8-speed automatic gearbox albeit with faster shifts than in the standard XE. Other upgrades on the high-performance version of the saloon will include larger performance brakes, stiffer and lower suspension and an electronically-controlled limited slip rear differential for better traction. In terms of design, it will probably get a bespoke body kit with exclusive front bumper treatment and grille, flared wheel arches, and side skirts. Expect the company to refurbish the rear bumper with an integrated diffuser and quad tailpipes. As far as the cabin is concerned, changes could include unique trims and colour schemes along with body-hugging sports seats.
The British luxury car maker will be sure to test this SVR baby quite extensively on the Nurburgring to ensure it can beat both, the BMW M3, which houses a 3.0-litre bi-turbo with 425bhp on offer, and the upcoming Mercedes C63 AMG, which will be powered by a bi-turbo 4.0-litre V8.

Jaguar Land Rover's high-performance division, Special Vehicle Operations, will work on the XE SVR, which is expected to arrive in the market by early 2016.
