The British luxury auto maker, Jaguar explains Supreme Court’s ban on diesel SUVs featuring engines capacitating 2000cc and above as technologically unjustified. Backing the diesel engines over the petrol mills, the Chief Executive of Jaguar Land Rover, Ralph Speth who is an engineer himself said that he is very disappointed by Supreme Court’s decision. He further added that all the vehicles from JLR comply with Euro VI emissions and the air these vehicles suck in is way too dirty than what they emit.
Emphasising on the lookout for more effective ways to curb pollution, Ralph said instead of banning the high capacity diesel engines, the government should ban the old vehicles along with restricting other sources that are polluting the environment. At this point in time, JLR is planning to enhance the petrol line-up by rolling out more petrol powered variants. The company currently has petrol variants of Jaguar XJ and Range Rover Sport on sale in India. On the first day of 13th Auto Expo, Jaguar launched two petrol trims of XE premium saloon. The new XE will be assembled locally at the company’s manufacturing unit in India along with other five models that are being assembled locally.
JLR had a tough run in world’s largest auto market China in the concluding year owing to the slowdown and the blast at the Tianjin port which further worsened the situation. The company however has been able to flourish in European market which turned out to be the largest market for JLR in 2015 followed by Britain.
