After pulling the wraps off the new 2021 Kia Sportage in June, the South Korean carmaker has now released more information about the upcoming SUV, officially introducing it. Due for a global market launch later this year, the new fifth-generation Kia Sportage is built on a new N3 architecture. Kia says that the new Sportage combines a driver-centric design with a premium interior featuring a swooping integrated curved display that houses the very latest advancements in connectivity tech. The SUV also features a host of passive and active high-tech safety systems, including a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Along with the standard models, Kia will launch an X-line variant of the Sportage.

The new-gen Sportage will be the first Kia vehicle to be available in both long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase model variants depending on the region, ensuring that the fifth-generation family fully meets the diverse and specific needs of all markets. In terms of dimensions, the Sportage measures - 4,660 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, 1,660 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,755 mm. The wheelbase figures for the LWB model hasn't been shared yet. Visually, The Sportage retains its crossover stance, but it's sportier now featuring an aggressive front end featuring a large grille, boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lamps and Matrix LED headlamps. Kia's designers have also incorporated a lot of sharp character lines that give it that muscular look of the profile, while the rear sees a completely new look as well. The rear bumper is nicely done too, with a silver skid plate. Depending on the variant, the new Sportage rides on 17-inch, 18-inch or range-topping 19-inch wheels, with a choice of seven different alloy designs, colours and finishes.

Inside, the new Sportage gets an all-new cabin with a diver-oriented dashboard, featuring an integrated single unit curved display with dual screens and a slim touchscreen pad and finely detailed air vents. The 12-inch touchscreen display at the centre comes with an advanced integrated controller, making it the command centre for driver and passenger connectivity, functionality and usability needs. There is a 12-inch screen for instrument cluster as well that is equipped with the latest-generation full thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display for incredibly precise and clear graphics. The all-new Sportage also benefits from the latest over-the-air software and map updates. Other features include - soft-touch switches, shift-by-wire transmission dial, wireless charger bay, and more.

As for engine options, right from the time of its launch, the SUV will come with a 1.6-litre TGDI turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel motor. The former is tuned to make 178 bhp and 265 Nm of peak torque, while mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox. The oil burner makes 183 bhp and 417 Nm of peak torque, while mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to the new advanced architecture, the new Sportage will also support hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, which will be made available near the start of sales.

With the 2021 Kia Sportage, the carmaker is also introducing numerous innovative technologies, including Kia's E-Handling system that enhances the dynamic performance of the vehicle and improves agility and stability. A new-generation Electric Control Suspension (ESC) provides optimum comfort and superior safety levels at all times thanks to its continuous damping control in real-time. An electronic 4WD system makes sure power is optimally distributed between the front and rear wheels depending on road conditions and driving situations. It also gets a Terrain Mode that is claimed to offer superior ride capabilities in more challenging conditions such as snow, mud and sand, allowing owners to pursue more adventurous leisure activities.
In terms of safety features, the Sportage comes with different restraint and structure system applications including 6 airbags. As part of its ADAS package, the all-new Sportage features Kia's Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), which helps avoid collisions with objects in front of the vehicle while driving. Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) are also part of the package.
