Land Rover has revealed the largest derivative of the new Defender, the 130. The longest iteration of the Defender measures a significant 5.3 metres in length with all the extra space liberated behind the rear wheels. Land Rover has not made any alterations to the 130's wheelbase over that of the Defender 110. The 130 measures a notable 340mm longer than the 110 with the 5,358 m length masking it about 200 mm longer than a BMW X7. The added length though does have an impact on the Defender's off-roading figures with the departure angle shrinking from 40 degrees to 28.5 degrees owing to the extended rear overhang.

In terms of looks, there is barely anything new ahead of the C-pillar with the 130 almost identical to the Defender 110. The only notable difference in design comes from the added length behind the rear axle along with some Defender 130 specific colour options. The Defender will go on slae in global markets in 5 variants - SE, HSE, X-Dynamic, X and First Edition - with each getting 20-inch alloy wheels as standard.
Overall styling is unchanged though the Defender 130 gets new colour options to stand out.
Inside, the cabin too is unchanged in design over its smaller siblings with new upholstery options being made available exclusively to the 130. Like the smaller V8 Defenders, the 130 gets the larger 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen as standard along with standard-fit air suspension and a cabin air purifier. The SUV can be specced as either a five- or eight-seater with buyers also getting the option of a Defender 130-specific 4-zone climate control system. Land Rover says that the optional third row offers “generous headroom” and ample space for three adults with access also made easier courtesy of the sliding and folding middle-row seat. A panoramic sunroof is standard with the third row also offered with its own dedicated glass roof panel to help improve the feeling of space.

Cabin design too is unchanged though you can option the 130 with seating for up to 8 passengers.
The increased dimensions also mean additional load-carrying capacity with the Defender 130 getting a 389-litre boot in the three-row variant. This increases to 1232 litres with the third row folded and a cavernous 2,291 litres with the second-row folded. The five-seater in comparison offers 1,329 litres of boot space as standard which can be increased up to 2,516 litres.

Coming to the engine line-up, the Defender 130 is solely available with mild-hybrid Ingenium six-cylinder engines in two states of tune. The 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is available in P300 and P400 states of tune developing 296 bhp and 470 Nm, and 395 bhp and 550 Nm respectively. The 3.0-litre diesel meanwhile is available in D250 and D300 spec. The D250 develops 247 bhp and 600 Nm while the D300 develops a stronger 296 bhp and 650 Nm. All variants get a 48V mild-hybrid system with an integrated started generator as standard. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is standard fit as is all-wheel drive.
We could expect Land Rover to bring the latest derivative of the new Defender to India in the near future. The company already offers the Defender 90 and Defender 110 in India and it has also been quick to open the order books for the new Range Rovers in the country.
