According to reports, Jaguar Land Rover is planning to launch a new range of models for its electric portfolio, called the Road Rover. With a tentative launch set for in 2019, JLR will offer the new Road Rover electric vehicles in markets such as China and US. These new range of models under the Road Rover is believed to replicate the company's off-road, on-road capabilities with the help of electric motors at the heart. There are chances that the British car-makers will introduce their new range at the 2019 LA Motor Show.

The first in line for production will be a Mercedes-Benz S-Class rival as it looks to take on the luxury that the sedan offers, while staying a true off-roader at the heart. While the prices are based on mere speculation, the new Road Rover EV could be pegged at around £90,000 for the top-end variants. More vehicles will be added to the range from 2020.
In terms of design, it is believed that the new Road Rover range will be heavily inspired by the new Velar, which the company will launch in India sometime this year. With emphasis on maintaining clear surface like the Velar, JLR will try for more of a shooting brake profile for the new Road Rover models than other electric SUVs on sale in the market.
While the company is focusing on bringing something new on the table, reports suggest that the new Road Rover will have underpinnings from Jaguar's next-generation XJ. The new-generation aluminum architecture can help in accommodating both batteries and engine. Moreover, the new Road Rover will be a pure-electric vehicle with two electric motors at the helm with AWD function. Travel range of the new electric models is said to be in the range of around 300kms on a single charge, with the ability to go from 0-100kmph in just 5 seconds. The new generation Jaguar XJ is also believed to come with the same specifications as the Road Rover.

The news could be part of an earlier report by carandbike.com, in which Jaguar Land Rover announced that from 2020 all its new vehicles will be electrified. The company had made the announcement at its inaugural Tech Fest earlier this month.
Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer, said, "Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice. We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE, goes on sale next year."
While the Jaguar I-Pace will be the first all-electric car from JLR, the company is also working on an electric Jaguar E-type Zero. The E-type Zero will come with an electric powertrain which can go from 0-100 kmph in just 5.5 seconds.
