On the 100th anniversary of the 1922 Model L, Lincoln has showcased the Model L100 Concept EV which takes inspiration from the brand’s heritage while keeping the future in mind. It is a bold take on the “Quiet Flight Design” and even goes further than the Lincoln Star concept which was showcased earlier this year in April.
Announced at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance the concept fuses advanced aerodynamics and futuristic technology. Lincoln says it "embraces the tension between exuberant elegance and subtle restraint."
The car obviously is very sleek in looks and has shape that is very aerodynamic making it a cross between a grand tourer and a shooting brake. It also gets a k-tail that guides the air over the vehicle, with clean surfaces and has smart wheel covers which have lighting and sensors to communicate motion, battery life and human presence.
There is a transparent hood which is a dramatic element and hides the crystal greyhound hood ornament which captures depth and illumination, something that was originally selected by Edsel Ford in the 1920s.
"This concept allowed us to design a new experience that is unburdened by past limitations and represents an evolution of our Quiet Flight tenets. The ultimate expression of our Model L100 design is one that moves effortlessly – a vehicle that appears to be sculpted by the wind, as if friction does not exist,” said Kemal Curic, global design director, Lincoln.
The car also gets tow massive rear-hinged doors which open on the sides and a glass roof lifts upward entirely, exposing a lounge like 2+2 interior. Notably, there is no steering wheel as it is a fully autonomous vehicle which can provide an intelligent driving experience.
The interior also gets an interactive center console cheeseboard that features jewel inspired chess piece controller. The controller replaces the steering wheel. There is a digital floor which works in tandem with the canopy and ambient lighting. All the cabin materials are also made from animal free materials.
Lincoln also says that there is a next generation battery cell which will deliver game changing energy density and will provide efficient structural integration by treating the entire vehicle as a system.
