Lucid Motors has revealed the user interface for the incoming Lucid Air before the delivery of the car has started. The company has shared footage of the user experience, dubbed the Lucid UX which showcases the first look at the technologies the startup is touting with the vehicle. The car has come a long way after being originally unveiled way back in 2016.
The indoor cabin space is inspired by the Tesla Model S.
The Dream Edition of the Lucid Air has already been sold out and is expected to be delivered to users this year. In the video shared, the company showcases the cutting edge paradigm that the car will tout internally.
"In much the same way that a holistic, clean-sheet approach to design and engineering has made possible the revolutionary packaging and efficiency of Lucid Air, this built-from-the-ground-up strategy has also enabled the creation of Lucid UX, a truly innovative human-machine interface that is easy-to-use and aesthetically beautiful. Lucid UX retains specific aspects of a traditional physical interface and pairs those with an innovative digital form factor that's highly advanced and ergonomic, providing intuitive access to all vehicle systems," said Derek Jenkins, senior VP of design and brand at Lucid Motors.
The glass cockpit features two main touchscreens. Matching the cutting screen on the Mercedes EQS, it features a 34-inch 5K panel across the dash dubbed the Glass Cockpit. There is also a lower screen that resembles what Tesla used to have on the Model S which is called Pilot Panel. The glass cockpit also has a touchpoint for climate and window controls. There is also a 21-speaker surreal sound system that supports spatial audio and supports Dolby Atmos. Apparently, the sound system has been designed by Dolby.
Like most modern cars, the user interface which is basically an operating system for the car will get updates over the air. It supports mobile and wifi which is important for OTA updates. It will even support voice assistants like Alexa and will support third-party streaming services like Spotify and iHeartRadio.
Through OTA updates, Lucid will also upgrade the car with its Dreamdrive advanced driver assistance system, which is supported by 32 sensors, the world's first high-resolution LiDAR on an EV.
