Made-in-India Volkswagen Vento Scores 5 Stars at ASEAN NCAP Tests

The ASEAN NCAP has published the crash test results for the made-in-India Volkswagen Vento, which was recently introduced in Malaysia with the car scoring 4-Stars for the non-ESC equipped version, whereas the ESC equipped version received full 5-Stars.

The ASEAN NCAP has published the crash test results for the made-in-India Volkswagen Vento, which was recently introduced in Malaysia. Volkswagen has already been selling the Vento with the nameplate 'Polo Sedan' in the South East Asian country and the car was already crash tested back in 2013. The testing agency has not physically tested another car, but has applied same testing methods to derive results, which sees the model receive five stars in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) for the ESC equipped variant and 4-Star rating for the 1.6-litre version without ESC. As its score is based on the existing result of the 2013 Volkswagen Polo Sedan, the Vento scored 14.51 points in Adult Occupant Protection. Given the ASEAN NCAP's pre-requisite of cars with ESC being eligible for 5-Star rating, we see the 1.2-litre variant equipped with ESC receiving the highest safety rating. As per the previous results, the Polo sedan's Child Occupant Protection results were applied to the new Vento as well, and the car showed 85 per cent compliance in the 4-Star category. The frontal offset crash test was conducted at 64 kmph (closing speed). The Vento was already tested by the ASEAN NCAP in 2013 In terms of safety tech, the Malaysian spec Volkswagen Vento is equipped with dual front airbags and ABS as standard on the base Trendline trim, whereas the Comfortline grade adds Side airbags to the model. In terms of power, both the 1.6-litre MPI and 1.2-litre TSI petrol engines produce 103bhp, but are paired to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic transmission options respectively. In the Indian context, Volkswagen has been one of the more active manufacturers in providing safety in vehicles in accordance with global norms and was quick to announce dual front airbags on all variants of the Polo back in 2014 after the Global NCAP crash test results. With the automaker's next major offering - the Ameo subcompact sedan, Volkswagen will provide dual front airbags and ABS on all grades of the model.
