Mahindra has revealed that it still has a substantial order backlog for its range of cars and SUVs. The company at the recent EV strategic investment revealed that it had a backlog of over 1.43 lakh unit. The XUV700 was the major contributor to this number with over 80,000 open bookings and going strong at almost 10,000 new bookings per month. The overall order backlog though seems to be improving with Mahindra during its FY2022 financial result announcement revealing that the number had been at over 1.70 lakh.
Launched last year, the XUV700 has been by far Mahindra’s most popular model. Total bookings have already crossed the 1.7 lakh mark with Mahindra saying it is still receiving about 9,800 new bookings every month. At present the tech-laden midsize SUV accounts for over 50% of open bookings with the waiting period stretching to almost 2 years for some variants. Mahindra though has said that it is looking to improve the waiting period in coming months with a further production ramp-up on the cards. The company had been producing about 5,000 units of the XUV700 per month in May 2022.

The new Thar meanwhile has about 26,000 open bookings. Mahindra’s lifestyle SUV has been steadily racking up bookings with Mahindra recording over 5,000 bookings per month.
In terms of bookings, it is the Bolero brand that takes second place in terms of monthly demand though the number of bookings are split between the standard and the Neo. Mahindra has said it gets about 8,200 cumulative bookings per month for its Bolero PV models with about 15,000 bookings currently pending to be fulfilled.
The Bolero and Bolero Neo combined are racking up about 8,200 bookings per month.
The subcompact XUV300 meanwhile is racking up about 6,700 bookings per month with an order backlog of about 14,000. The leftover balance 8,000 units accounts for other passenger vehicles sold by the company.
Mahindra is soon to open the order books for the new Scorpio-N as well. The carmaker anno0ucned prices for its new-gen ladder-frame SUV a few weeks back with order books being opened on July 30. The company has said that based on initial impressions the model could prove to be more popular than the XUV700 though a clearer picture is expected to emerge once bookings open. The carmaker is set to reveal prices for the Scorpio-N automatic, 4x4 and the fully-loaded six-seater model on July 21.
