The Baleno, in fact is the first car to come with safety features like ABS with EBD and Dual Airbags as part of standard equipment. Maruti Suzuki has put its best foot forward and by providing these features has made a clear statement that the safety of the consumer is their top priority.
This was not always the case though as most of the vehicles sold by the company like the Alto 800, Alto K10, Celerio, Wagon R et al all came sans safety features and only later were they made available with the option of ABS or airbags for which the consumer had to shell out more.

However, there is a lot that has changed post the launch of the Baleno and the car is a perfect example of how an expectation of consumers drives the market. Maruti Suzuki has provided a lot of features in the base variant itself and this strategy is about to be rub off on its other products as well.
"We are working on making safety features as standard feature in all existing products of ours. We are planning to introduce a model fitted with safety features ahead of the government's regulation," Maruti Suzuki India Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, R S Kalsi said.

Maruti Suzuki is working out on a strategy to make safety equipment standard across their existing and new model range. The company offers safety features as an optional package on most of their model range but that will change soon. We've already seen Toyota and Volkswagen equip their cars with safety equipment and we hope that other car manufacturers follow suit.
