Maruti Suzuki's head of domestic sales and marketing, R. S. Kalsi conveyed that the Indian auto giant plans to open 250 NEXA dealerships in the country by 2017. The announcement was made at the inauguration of the 99th NEXA dealership in India, part of Shivam Autozone located in Andheri East, Mumbai where T Hashimoto, Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales also joined Kalsi. The 100th premium dealership is the 'NEXA Thane (South), coming up near Mumbai.
Maruti officials stated that NEXA is the fourth largest growing brand in India. Currently, the dealerships are located in around 55 cities and the company plans to expand its total footprint to 140-150 by the end of the current financial year while the number will increase to 250 by the next fiscal. The expansion will also see the strength of relationship managers grow from 2500 to 5000 people.
Launched in July last year, Maruti's NEXA dealerships have received a fabulous response from the market as the company has been able to sell over 40,000 cars within five months. In fact, Maruti aims to sell around two million vehicles by 2020 and the premium dealerships are expected to contribute around 15 percent of the total annual sales by then.
While the officials steered clear on talking about new launches, Maruti did state that development for a host of its models is underway, when asked about the petrol derivative of the S-Cross as well as the next generation Swift. Furthermore, the 1.6-litre diesel engine on the S-Cross will continue to be imported in the country, at least till the volumes don't build up for the same.
Maruti currently retails the Baleno and S-Cross models from NEXA and it is believed that the next model to join the lineup will be the Ciaz sedan along with the Ignis sub-compact SUV. Talking about the new launches for 2016, the automaker is readying up the Vitara Brezza sub 4-metre compact SUV for an unveil at the upcoming auto expo while the Ignis will also arrive later in the year with the dimensions of a hatchback and styling of an SUV.
