Despite growing competition in the entry level sedan segment, Maruti Swift Dzire retained its top position in the Indian market. And not just that, Maruti Swift Dzire has emerged as the top-selling car in the month by outselling the Alto.
The company sold a total of 18,634 units of the Swift Dzire in July 2014, while the sibling Alto managed to sell 16,997 units. But what is worrying for the company is the fact that, in July, Alto's sales came down to almost half the sales it recorded in May. In May 2014, MSI sold 30,499 units of the Alto.
If we look at the top-ten selling cars sold in July 2014, Maruti Suzuki India has 6 cars, while Hyundai has two cars. Hyundai i20 which used to be in the top-selling cars could not make it to the list, since the company had stopped taking orders for the old-gen i20. Just so you know, the company rolled out the new-generation model of the car - the Elite i20 in August 2014. Honda City and Mahindra Bolero are two other cars in the list of top-ten selling cars.
