Meerut RTO Ceases Re-Registration of Diesel & Petrol Vehicles Affected by NGT Ban
Keeping in line with the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) ban on diesel vehicles over 10 years-old and petrol vehicles over 15 years-old from plying in the national capital, the Meerut Regional Transport Officer (RTO) has ceased re-registration of such vehicles.
Keeping in line with the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) ban on diesel vehicles over 10 years-old and petrol vehicles over 15 years-old from plying in the national capital, the Meerut Regional Transport Office (RTO) has ceased re-registration of such vehicles. The RTO has clarified that vehicles that fall under the purview of the ban will not be registered in the city even if a no objection certificate (NOC) is obtained from another state.
Over the 4,500 diesel vehicles that the ban affects, more than 600 are privately-owned cars, while nearly 4,000 are commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles comprise taxis, and light and heavy vehicles among others.
While the RTO is working on enforcing the ban, officials are of the opinion that citizens should have been educated about the matter before administering the ban. However, they believe the plan to stop re-registration of such vehicles will help put the ban in place since checking every vehicle is impractical.
